Any old school EverQuest players here?

Sunk more hours into EQ than any other game I ever owned.

Played from launch until Depths of Darkhollow almost nonstop, ALOT.... I would goto work (high paced construction job) on about 2-3 hours of sleep and thought nothing of soloing all day on my Necro or Druid...

Wow, that reminds me of my older brother. His work was fucked because of everquest. He would raid some stupid zone(which took like 12 hours) with americans. 2-3 hours of sleep after work then play play play until he had to work again the next day.

i was working 2nd shift at a factory during my gaming days. i'd get home at like 1:30 am, the wife and kids would be asleep. log in, next thing i know im hearing birds chirping outside...

also: kiting and reverse kiting ftw. the alt i played the most was a halfling druid

it wasn't called "evercrack" for nothin'

I hope you guys didn't miss the best kiting ever, aka the bard kite. Pull an entire zone, then kite in a circle for an hour

read that as "bird kite" at first, and was going to reply "bard?", but then caught it.

eq bard = original guitar hero

Other than point blank aoe, they put target limits on aoe damage at some point :\ . Back in the day bards, wizards and druids were all mass kiting masters... bards were only better because of selos and fading memories to wipe agro if things got hairy. Necros were sick at single target kiting and sk's could dot kite somewhat if they knew how tobug their mount for instant movement/stopping.

Sk's with their 1.5/2.0 epic are kings at zone pulling now, provided you have good gear and solid defensive aa's, you can riposte kill full zones.

I remember doing this... there was a trick where you could hit CTRL, up key and left key all at once and it would lock your bard running in a circle... I had a macro that played the run speed song and the AOE song..

I cant remember the name of the place but it was a mid 40s area with a castle full of vampires.. and I used to gather 15 or so of them... start the circle... then go browse the internet for 15 minutes then come back and start over again...

My original Main was a Mage on Karana, until they split the server and created Ayonae Ro so I and my guild moved to ARo.

I played from release till Depths of Darkhollow (I think that was the name)

Coterie vampires in tenebrous mountains (luclin) probably, or castle mistmoore.

When Western Wastes first opened, I was able to kite the giants and dragons solo there as a Bard.

It took a full guild to take down a dragon and a big party to do the giants. There was also the looming threat that Guild Masters were watching what you were doing and could ban you. It was super fun though. I got some major items that way and the thrill of kiting something like that for an hour is hard to top.

I also found a way to fight the Seahorse in the zone prior without getting hit that dropped a really powerful belt and a weapon. It was really hard to get there solo and if you tried to fight him straight on, you were dead.

EverQuest memories will never be topped. The sheer variety of levels, content, atmosphere and sense of danger remains unmatched in MMOs.

Outside of the castle if so, inside was so buggy afaik. Typical eq zone.. Pull something.. "wheres the mob????" "GOD FEIGN DEATH" "...it failed" -> rain of mobs

...

My original Main was a Mage on Karana...

my main was a drow mage on povar. you can't roll up a dark elf mage on eq2 though. you have to roll a drow necro an then "betray" to an evil aligned city (freeport or neriak) to change your class.

oddly enough, it is buggy as fuck in the second game too. i was just in there with some guildies maybe two months ago. we were grabbing aggro (epics) through the walls and ceiling - and getting wiped. i can't help wonder if that isn't and accident. that nostalgia.

I don't recall much of castle in eq2, is it the vampire mansion where all the mobs have names looking like they're rares? Would be hilarious if they made it buggy for nostalgia. My brother has two 72a in everquest, grinding the hole, shaman and magician

yeah.

you zone in off loping plains (the zone with the warg mount quest), or the catacombs (also off loping plains). all of the mobs in the castle are named (triple up heroic) if that is what you mean. we didn't make it all the way though, there were only five of us and there were grouped epic x 2(s) mobs upstairs and in the basement iirc. after a few wipes from the epics porting through the ceiling and/or the floor, my group bounced and hit the shard of fear instead.

You made it much further than us, its a raid instance right? We only killed a few at the entrance then it escalated to impossible.
I actually like the Group content in EQ2, we were only Three but we had a lot of fun leveling in dungeons.

nahh. we weren't in the inner sanctum that is epicx4 according to wiki. we were just in the public instance group dungeon, but there are epicx2s in there as well as the heroics.

agreed about the group content. they have agnostic dungeons now as well for lvls 20-85 and average everything out so that no mentoring is needed. the mobs don't even have level indicators on their tags, just the trips. everyone in the group gets their own copy of the chests that drop off the bosses which contain class specific gear and or combat arts/spells. it's a pretty good system, and easily doable with 2 or 3.

I used to play awhile back, it sucked up two years of my life, mostly cause I was hardcore into raiding. Started off with a mid level guild that did all the pop content, the struggles in the planes, mostly poearth. Then joined a guild called township rebellion and they liked to rush things to become first in all content. After awhile I got burned out, a friend in game out of no where noticed this and offered me 1200 for my little dwarf warrior and that was it for me. Was a lot of fun, miss the game sometimes.

Played from release until velious. Quit for a while, then came back around PoP. So off and on until 2006 or so. My main was a woodelf druid I played to 65, and I had 50 something ogre sk. Good times. I played p99 a bit bit lost interest eventually since it seemed ljke velious was never coming and all the high end guilds on there are very creepy and obsessive. Wtf do you mean I STILL can't do any high end content unless I have no life. You can gtfo with that. The best was finally getting my epic on my druid back in the day.

Bumping this ancient thread, anybody play P99 EQ on here??

I haven’t played EQ in about 18 years but my brother got me back into it. Started up a dwarf pally, the server is full of active members still and it’s just how I remember it 2 decades ago!

Sadly I'm just a bit too young to have played EverQuest. I played WoW from 2006-2009 and it was amazing. Everything I've read and heard about EverQuest led me to believe I would've liked it even more, but it wasn't the same game by the time I gave it a shot.

At this point, it's just too dated for me to go back and play it. I can't seem to enjoy really old games that I didn't play back when they were new. Not to mention, I don't have enough free time for an old school MMO anymore.

Man weird seeing a few old regulars in here that no longer post.

I never played EQ but I did play Ultima Online way back when it first released

Old school EverQuest player here. Been playing on and off (mostly on) since 1999. Have a box crew of level 125 on Test Server. Last progression server I played on was Yelinak, have played on several time-locked progression servers.
