Any old school EverQuest players here?

Yeah, by most accounts no one is very difficult until the Elemental Planes, and even then, not a ton of challenge. Some say RZ is the first test because of the adds, but I had virtually no AA, and brought them him down like nothing.
The hardest fight so far was Naggy, hands down. I was mid 40's, had no or few AA's, gear was ok but since Im not a melee class my dps was low as pretty much the only thing that landed were lifetaps, which i had to chain cast to stay alive (meaning less proc dps via melee as the pets at that point are weak and I didn't have a symbol of ancient summoning yet)

Early on with no AA's it can be real rough, high 40's without kunark unlocked you hit a wall where mobs dont give great xp but to unlock kunark you have to kill two dragons that can really be a brick wall for certain combinations. Once I unlocked Kunark it was smooth sailing and only boss that has killed me was Dozekar first attempt.

RZ, Xeg and Rathe Council are going to be interesting. I think once I unlock PoF I'll kill Fenin and maybe Corinav, then max out the rest of the class AA's then go for 65 before RC and Xeg since they are a little tougher.

RZ surprised me with all of the adds, but took him out fairly easily at 61 with about 500aa. Bard rune songs with HoHV on each pet were able to mostly mitigate the damage, with heals mixed in to keep the pet squad topped off.

Need to load this up on my laptop to take with me on a work trip this weekend. Wasn't planning on taking it, but the pull is strong. Normally I wouldn't, but the potential shut down a few weeks away I just want to squeeze every last drop.

I saw that another emu server project Quaram settled with DBG, and one of the agreements is a player cap of 1200 online at a time, not counting bazaar. That would suck, but better than a full shutdown. I think the last TLP server and Quaram saw peaks of like 2200, where THJ has been seeing peaks of like 4000. Plus every day I'm playing I see in chat someone mention they had no idea the server existed but saw the lawsuit stuff and came over, so I think numbers are still growing.

Ya I got flown back out to the philippines to train another newhire class (was just here for 2 months from Apr-June) and the day before I left, I got it set up on my ROG AllyX and bought a portable 16in monitor that is incredibly cool for $100. it has been pretty smooth sailing and hilariously runs more stable than my desktop (where I crash while zoning often)

I saw a set up for the steam deck and thought about going that route since my son likes to play on my laptop, but while gone he can play on my desktop which is better than the laptop. I get a ton of crashes going to to new zones too and heard it's pretty much everyone, interesting that the AllyX handles it better.

Its definitely not even close to as powerful as my desktop where I have settings turned up (RTX-3080Ti FTW edition 64gb ram) but it's more stable.

Sol Ro down, elementals are unlocked. Time to switch characters! Lol
I did sol ro yesterday too. I actually died in the tower. Not to any boss, but I was fighting a room and one the reanimated mobs bugged out and suddenly the entire zone was on top of me. Went back in and cleared mo problem after that, just went slower.

That reanimation aa has caused a lot of issues. For awhile if they had something dispersed you would just DC.

Made a necro/monk/rogue (will swap out the necro for pally, just need the iksar necro to do the lich cap quest), ive not utilized the necro part (bought no spells, not using the pet) but gawd damn melee are OP. I only spent a few k and threw some gear I already had lying around on them, and I was just shredding through Lguk around level 20, lol... got to the 30's in less than an hour.

Made a War/MNK/SHM and thinking about swapping the SHM for PAL from reading they have some pretty fast clear times from their collection of skills. Want this to be a boss rush character for farming so okay that I pump up an over powered class combo. Got him to 20 with almost no effort other than his slow ass running coming off of my bard. Haven't played him to much with lawsuit ruling coming soon and wanted to focus on my main. Going to be out of town this weekend on my laptop and unknown connection availability, so if I have a weak connection I may jump to the alt with the lower level content.

Melee early on is stupidly fast, especially monk and rogue with all their white damage. Paladan/monk seems go be the meta right now, and I see why. My ench added to it makes for some fun times.

I'm thinking of dropping SHM from my main for monk, but the lack of cures keeps me hesitant. Plus shamans can slow anything, even unslowable mobs. Mnk/war is pretty good from what I know. The good thing with warrior is he has shield specialist which is a huge damage boost to sword and shield. Paladin gets it too. SK is more of a 2hander, but with warrior shield specialist you can use the sk time club with shield of strife and mow things down, lifetapping all the way. Paladins get cutes though, and their elemental pop up has a quick cast all purpose cure

I never played either of the classes back in the day, only really played BRD, RNG, and SK, so not really sure what they bring to the table. Made the WAR/MNK/SHM for a balanced make up and really hesitant to swap the SHM, but I see tons of build suggestions and guides for the PAL in the mix. Seems redundant to have two tanks, but it seems really popular. Hopefully there is time to find out!

EQ's Shaman is (imo) one of the greatest classes of any game all time. Such a fantastic toolbox char that is the best at a few things (debuffs), but a jack of all trades that can do almost anything if played well.

Yeah, Shaman and Bard are my two favorite classes. Bard is maybe the most unique class in any MMO.

Oh, don't forget you can get free AA and charms by talking to the dwarf in PoK

First thing I did in PoK was get my figurine, I was playing live when that was added, lol

Hit my first gear/AA/skill check making my way through PoF to Fenin Ro. Started the event and spawned all the demon dudes. Cruising along not even having to heal my pets.

Make it to the final approach, see a large pull and try to split them. Get a big group of yellows and burn them down. One of the names on the group, but goes down easy enough. 3 of the named left with only a few trash mobs. Pull one of the demons and get 2, which didn't seem terrible up to that point. Start laying on debuffs and Dot's, look over and one of my mage epic is gone, and BST is getting burned down quick. Decide to gate rather than try to mend and recover since mage pet is already down.

Chalked it up to lack of attention. Make a second attempt and forgot to re-equip my lute after summoning pet, and pets gets trashed because the lute is key for damage runes. That one was my fault for being a bone head.

Go back in for a 3rd attempt buffs ready and head on straight. Try to lull, but demons are to high level. Still get two and they burn down my pets again faster than I can heal. Gate back to regroup. Strapped for time and had to log out to catch a flight. Loaded on my laptop so will make another attempt tomorrow. Might need to gear up my pets better and focus in on some of the pet AA boosts with cool down skills, mostly been focusing on their passives.

Sounds like a tough fight.

Stack that shielding Stat. To the moon

Is it needed on pets? I wouldn't mind loading up on shielding for them, but anything with shielding is crazy expensive. You can get a few pieces at fairly decent prices, but some like the earthen bracer are like 50k. Then thinking about loading up the pets and eventually my own gear.

Only the tank pet needs it, but 35 shielding is the goal. And yeah, it is crazy expensive. The legendary Kera augs with shielding are usually a few hundred thousand. I am up to like 21 so far, and am debating spending the money on those bracers, since I think they are Quarm drops

Just got back into the US, nearly missed my connecting flight in Japan but now I have an 8hr layover in SF, gonna get some playtime in
