Anthony Joshua injured in Car Accident in Nigeria. 2 others dead.

[Had to remove link to get the post through - the article is on Sky Sports.]

The driver of the car involved in a fatal crash that injured Anthony Joshua and killed two of his close friends has been charged by Nigerian police with causing death by dangerous driving and driving without a licence.

The Ogun State Police Command confirmed that Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, had been charged in court earlier on Friday, with the case adjourned until the 20th of January for trial.

Joshua, 36, was taken to hospital where medical staff determined that he did 'not require any emergency interventions' and was discharged on Wednesday.

Kayode was charged on four counts, which were dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care and attention - causing bodily harm and damage to property, and driving without a valid national driving licence.

The defendant was granted bail in the sum of 5,000,000 Naira (£2,578) and was remanded pending his bail conditions being met.

The collision happened around 11am in Makun on Monday, around 30 miles from Lagos. The Federal Road Safety Corps said the Lexus was suspected to be travelling in excess of the speed limit and lost control while overtaking.
Is the driver a friend or acquaintence of Joshua?

Why does he have a bodybuilder building him up as a boxer? Like they ain't remotely similar.

From various reports I've read the cause of the crash was due to the driver speeding and then trying to overtake & and realising too late there was a truck parked by the side of the road and crashed.

However, the last split second the driver had to brace himself & swerve is what most likely saved Joshua & the driver as well.

Had it been a full frontal hit all the force would've been taken by the car & everyone would've wore the brunt of it.

Having it 'clip most of one section' instantly spelled death for those 2 poor guys (RIP!) as they never had a chance but some of the kinetic energy was lost enough in the process that 'lessened it a bit' for the other side of the car.

As for Joshua he would've had massive G force trauma to his chest & regardless of whether he was awake & able to move when they pulled him out he still might have internal bleeding and heavily bruised organs as a consequence of it & will still need to recover for quite some time.

To those that forget Princess Diana initially survived the car crash and was lucid & awake when help arrived. It was only when they went to move her out that she suddenly slipped into cardiac arrest & never woke up.That could've happened here as well.

A tragedy & once again RIP for the 2 friends of Joshua.... and hope he physically makes a full recovery from this....

Mentally though this trauma never leaves you sadly.
Always the overtaking and speeders that kill

NEW info: The driver asked Joshua to switch seats because he was blocking the back view with his large frame. this is not a joke.

joshua was originally sitting the side of the car that got mangled.
dude had his guardian angel working.

don't know, but it's less and less unusual in the last few decades. Holyfield worked with Lee Haney for a period. Michael Spinks was the first high profile fighter that I know of to mess with weights and hire a conditioning coach (Mackie Shilstone) and it was controversial in 85. Used to be, all the trainers advised against weights and some still do I'm sure. The idea that fighters would get musclebound or lifting would somehow hurt their boxing has always been the thought. Ali apparently called weights, "the worst thing in the world for a fighter". It's not true though, all calisthenics and resistance training is some sort of weight lifting even if it's just body weight.

muscles use up oxygen, which is why heavily set fighters suffer from stamina issues

.Holyfield also had a trainer to achieve the full splits, which he was eventually was able to do. He claims this was done to aid in hip mobility for punches

I know, most people and most fighters never become huge though. The best physique in the sport have been guys who didn't touch weights like Ken Norton. I'm not sure if Mike weaver ever lifted but wouldn't surprise me if he didn't.

Also there are different way to use weights that focus more on strength or on endurance. Strength training generally isn't known to build insane amounts of muscle. Bruce Lee was rumored to be pfp the strongest man several martial artist met, he wasn't ever more than 150 pounds and never was huge. He did maniacal strength training at a time when martial artists may have avoided weights.

I dont personally think extra strength is any sort of liability, I could see it not really being that useful in some ways or even not being needed past a certain amount. Holyfield used weights smart and I don't think anyone but Big George outmuscled him. Safe to say he wasn't natty though and wouldn't have been as big or strong without the extra help.

Did he really? I never heard anyone advised splits for boxing but impressive if true.

they didn't. he personally thought it might help. Flexibility is crucial for pro boxing where you use more leverage but full splits seems like overkill. I don't think it matters.

I dont see any way it would help.

Bruce Lee...never had a fight in his life

I see your "John Fury says something kinda dumb" and I'll raise you a "Bryce Mitchell goes full retard"

I looked it up to see if he said this before the fight (which would have been eerily prescient) or afterwards. Its from yesterday lol, the man can't get right

jesus he's such a fucking imbecile.
