Ankalaev was on a 14-fight undefeated streak - This was Pereira best win in his career without doubt

Ankalaev´s only mistake came from outside of the fight, IMHO he arrived over-confident and brushed off a very dangerous Poatan after beating him in the first fight and was saying things like ´´I won´t expose his takdown defense because his putting in the work´´ and I spoke about this same thing during the Imavov vs Caio fight because Caio made that same mistake Ankalaev did and also lost a 16-fight win streak and the only difference was that Ankalaev´s 14-fight undefeated streak all came within the UFC and not on the regional stage.

Caio was way over-confident for weeks leading upto the fight as if Imavov was a non-factor and Ankalaev was also way over-confident and extremely relaxed in the staredowns, around Alex and just in general to relaxed.

Alot of people don´t realize this but you need that fear in your belly in order to prepare and perform at your best, you need that fear that questions you all the time? what if he beats me etc etc but growing over-confident it is very dangerous.

Over-confidence in a fight can be a diasterous mindset. you need that fear of defeat to keep yourself sharp. Especially against someone like Poatan he has that power and can end anyone in a second plus he took out his last 4 opponents before losing to Big Ank and Alex is a serial finisher and top tier opponent plus he is a two time glory champion.

But mad respect to Ankalaev he took the defeat very well despite losing 14-fight undefeated streak and without a doubt this is Pereira best win in his career snatching that 14-fight undefeated streak.

He already beat Izzy 2 times before beating him the 3rd time making it 3-0 hardly an achievement. Jiri is kinda of sucks imho as much as I like the dude and got whopped by a 50 year old Glover and clumse as fuk, he is lucky that he is in a weak division devoid of talent.

On paper for sure but Ankalaev fought a horrible fight and it ended quick.

Just a terrible peformance. Can we pretend that we saw a real clash of skill and preparation?

Edit: For that matter did we even see any heart on display? He absolutely folded.

Because he got hit with a goddamn piston. That's essentially what happens to everyone. I'd love to see a trilogy with Adesanya. I mean I wouldn't, because I actually like Israel and don't want to see him get killed but

That was Pereira's quickest finish in the UFC and he wasn't even doing to cans at middleweight.

Jiri is his best win.

I mean the dude has grown. A lot. Think about the first fight with Israel, how he struggled against the wrestling. Now not even Ank can take him down.

I agree he is a better fighter than before by far but you have Pereira clearly trying to finish you early and you don't do anything to match that intensity... it was a squash match if that's the approach after that first 1-2 narrowly misses you in the first 3 seconds.

Yeah, my favorite fight is the Rountree fight. That was fun AF.

This was meh. He just caught him and cleaned him out.
If you're an Ank ball washer.... sure. But even in terms of significance, the Adesanya win was the bigger fight by far. Ank doesn't have a legacy as a champion. Zero.

Next to the Conor/Aldo fight, was this the worst loss by a champion in the UFC?

I don't see how he could possibly fight Izzy, he's a giant now.

I think Ankalaev is his best win at LHW and would like to see a trilogy between them.
