Ankalaev Grappling Stats:
1 TD per fight on average, 30% TD accuracy
2/10 against Jan.
1/4 against mighty wrestler Volkan Oezdimir.
1/2 against post-exploded-knees Thiago Santos.
1/3 against Klidson Abreu (who???)
1/3 against Dalcha Lungiambula (literally who?)
Got taken down by Paul Craig twice, then submitted.
This fight has the making of Islam Olivera all over it. Just like Olivera coasted on favourable matchups so do Alex. You aint telling me A guy who got taken down and held down the entire round by prestigious wrestler Israel Adesanya is not gonna have problems with a guy who took a bear like Jan down at will. Sure Islam is a far superior grappler but Olivera was also leagues upon leagues above ALex in grappling defense and offense himself. it goes in wrestling like Ankalaev > Jan > Adesanya > Alex. shit doesnot look good for himIt's amazing how so many people want to make Magomed Ankalaev into some kind of "great Russian wrestler" ...
Dude is not even close
At best, Ankalaev = a competent wrestler, who rarely USES wrestling.
He's never faced anyone of note in grappling / wrestling ...
For those who sing the praises of Ankalaev's "Win Record," they need to just realize he's NEVER faced anyone of who matters today.
(Oh, sorry, he had "a draw" with Jan Błachowicz ... and was thoroughly dominated through most of it.)
The idea of Ankalaev being "a threat" to Pereira is actually laughable
Yeah, sure, he has "a chance" to win — hell, anybody does — but that is not the way to bet.
At the end of the day, Magomed Ankalaev has never actually defeated a single Champion, in any discipline ...
While Alex Pereira has defeated MULTIPLE Champions, in EVERY division he's ever been in, and in every fighting brand in which he's ever competed.
Yeah, yeah, the UFC is promoting this fight, to make money, but the truth is Pereira vs. Ankalaev = A MISMATCH ... and it doesn't favor Ankalaev![]()
Adesanya didn't shoot a double or anything, Alex got reversed and ended up on his back off his own takedown attempt. This isn't to say Ankalaev can't wrestle but this is a guy who averages a takedown every 3.6 rounds and only has 10 in his 14 UFC fights. This fight has the making of Islam Olivera all over it. I don't give a ship about the "oddsmakers" ...
I already have everything I want, thank you.
If you think Ankalaev = "a favorite" you are a dumbass. If you are one of those people who "bet money" on everything, show me your bet slip, and how much you're betting (to the contrary of my post), since that seems to be the way you judge credibility and opinions.
Walk your talk, or STFU
The wrestling superstar with zero sub wins, zero sub attempts in the UFC, and averages 1 takedown every 15 minutes![]()
Plus of course that was the Alex of 2022, a couple of years after he'd started his MMA career again and just a year after he'd focused on in full time rather than juggling with kickboxing, its going to have been almost 2 1/2 years since then by the time he fights Ank.Adesanya didn't shoot a double or anything, Alex got reversed and ended up on his back off his own takedown attempt. This isn't to say Ankalaev can't wrestle but this is a guy who averages a takedown every 3.6 rounds and only has 10 in his 14 UFC fights.
Compare this to Islam who has 39 takedowns in his 17 UFC fights.
Edit: Oh, I forgot, let's discuss professional sub wins. Islam has 13 Ankalaev has 0.
Why are we so focused on wrestling in this matchup?... and who has Pereira fought that was a better wrestler than Ankalaev?
Actually, who has Pereira fought that can wrestle at all...
Lhw is sort of dead
Ank made Walker and Smith look like children. Which isn't too hard to do I suppose. I really wish the higher echelon fights, like his last one in middle east, were more memorable
... and who has Pereira fought that was a better wrestler than Ankalaev?
Actually, who has Pereira fought that can wrestle at all...
Saying he went life and death is really going overboard. He prefers to stand but when he needed to, he took Jan down at will. Pereira just went life and death with Rountree in a kickboxing match, now include the threat of the takedown and you might be surprised at how effective Ank's boxing might look.
Thank you for saying this brother.Well, the oddsmakers disagree. Ankalaev is a very slight betting favourite.
If you are so certain that this is a mismatch, here's your chance to get rich!
The jimmies would be properly rustledImagine this dude as champion, the LHW belt will be defended in co-main events.
Why are we so focused on wrestling in this matchup?
I would say old man Glover is a better wrestler and much more dangerous grappler than Ank. It’s also quite easy to find good wrestlers for your camp and we have seen owl face training with wrestlers too recently, but has he ever fought any striker better than Alex? Does he have a training partner who can emulate Alex?
Wow, so Alex even loses to immaterial wrestling![]()
