Anime and Manga v37

I loved that anime. Found out there were some sequel/epilogue movies made. Also, one of my browsers crashed and lost all of my tabs and fucked me over. :(

Never knew there was a movie made about S-Cry-ed. Might check it out. Manga is vastly different by the way. What I loved about the show was the overdramatic yelling and action. Ryuhooooo!!!! KAZUMAAA!!! Shocking first bullet! Reminds me of all the G-Gundam shouting. Ha!

Sucks you lost all your tabs. Hope my video didn't cause it.

Nah it was before this. Vivaldi shat out on me so mow I have to search the MASSIVE amounts of history I have to scour my shit back including several manga I had yet to bookmark. FML.

guys, GUYS I need a new manga.

not a hardcore manga fan & followed all the popular ones (Naruto, Bleach, Katekyo Hitman Reborn). Berserk is my all time fav, but the slow releases are killing me here.

ideally I'd like to start a new manga similar to the aforementioned series above.

but I did enjoy Gantz!, Historie, Vagabond (gotta catch up on it again sometime, forget where I left off) & a few others I can't remember now.

You could give Vinland Saga a try see if you that catches your fancy.

As far as manga's like Bleach + Naruto :

Full Metal Alchemist
Hunter x Hunter
The Breaker + The Breaker : New Waves
Boku no Hero Academia

Those would be a good start.

As for ones more on the Gantz side of things, Zieg had some great recommendations (although Gyo is legitimately fucked up lol)

Based on those examples:

Vinland Saga
Dorohedoro
Kingdom
Inu Yashiki
Onepunch-Man
Nanatsu no Taizai
Tower of God
Hellper
Feng Shen Ji

The suggestions made zieg and mardy also all look to be on-point. I'll also echo that Gyo is really fucking weird, but still worth reading (it's pretty short).

JBS did you ever review a manga called "Fire punch?"
Yes. There were only a couple chapters out at the time. There's quite a bit more released since then. I think it's decent. It's an odd series, but the setting is interesting and it once it gets rolling it stops focusing on trying to be so weird/gross.

@22k Also if Gyo catches your interest, Ito Junji has plenty of other works. He is horror artist so expect some gruesome and bizarre stories.

Uzumaki, Hellstar Remina Tomie and many more.

hell yeah yous guys are awesome! mega thanks. going to check 'em out & report back when I do.

have a happy new year regardless fellas!

And it's done.

Ashita Mata, Kono Sekai de - Ongoing - [C] - This feels very incomplete. What artwork there is isn't bad, but there's very little in the way of backgrounds and the art feels like a single-pass ink sketch. Makes the whole thing very amateurish.
Danberu nan Kiro Moteru - Ongoing - [B] - Surprising little ecchi series about girls working out at a gym. No, it's not high art, but I found myself enjoying it more than expected.
Darwin's Game - Ongoing - [F] - Watch out for those evil cell-phone games! They'll get you every time. (dumb. dumb. dumb.)
Demon Spirit Seed Manual - Ongoing - [F] - The plot of this series isn't really innovative, but that's not the reason this gets an F. It gets an F because the artwork sucks. Specifically: the artist can't draw eyes. Everybody has this super derpy look with their eyes pointing off in all different directions. It's distracting and terribly drawn.
Double Casting - Ongoing - [C+] - This is an action/gangster story where the main character infiltrates a police unit. It's...ok. Nothing here you haven't seen elsewhere and I wouldn't go out of my way to suggest it. Ouroboros is a similar series that's done better than this one.
Hyulla's Race - Ongoing - [] - Ecchi. Stupid and uninspiring.
Isekai Maou to Shoukan Shoujo Dorei Majutsu - Ongoing - [C] - Yet another "game world becomes real" story. Doesn't really do anything you haven't seen before.
Kengan Ashua - Ongoing - [B] - This is an action/martial arts series. The artist has a unique style, but the writing is pretty bare-bones and everything's built around a tournament so there's really not much plot. Not bad to scratch that actioner itch, but it won't be winning any awards.
Knights & Magic - Ongoing - [B] - Programmer/mecha fanatic is killed in an accident and reincarnated in a world with magic and mecha. It leans on a lot of popular tropes, but it handles them well enough and I like the design work.
Light vs Shadow - Ongoing - [C-] - Extremely forgettable bit of fantasy/action.
Mai Ball! - Ongoing - [C-] - This sports (soccer) ecchi series just never finds its footing. It makes the mistake of introducing a ton of characters all at once without any opportunity to really get to know any of them. Also I really didn't like the main couple.
Nejimaki Seirei Senki - Tenkyou no Alderamin - Ongoing - [A-] - Surprisingly well written bit of political/military drama with a fantastical twist. The setting is sort of civil-war levels of tech mixed with these small elemental spirits. This one has a lot of potential to be very good.
PageTurner - Ongoing - [F] - This is a very amateur effort at making a fantasy.
Roku de Nashi Majutsu Koushi to Kinki Kyouten - Ongoing - [B-] - This is a fantasy series about a former young soldier forced to become a school teacher at the magic academy. It's sort of like a fantasy version of GTO. It doesn't do anything particularly well, but it didn't bomb on any one aspect. Basically, it's the sort of thing you'll read when you've already read through all the good stuff and are desperate for more material to read.
Star Martial God Technique - Ongoing - [C] - This is by the same author as Tales of Demons and Gods, but that series is definitely better than this one. They're very similar, but this one doesn't have any good excuse for having a super-powered-up main character (oh, and it's chinese...what a surprise).
The Great Ruler - Ongoing - [F] - More crappy chinese knock-off action/martial arts crap. Not a single new idea to be found.
The Hunter G - Ongoing - [F] - Extremely unlikable and just felt pointless.
Yongbi - Ongoing - [B] - Decent martial arts series, but sometimes the artwork can be hard to follow (especially at the beginning, it improves as it goes on). This is the same authors as Gosu (Gosu is not exactly a sequel, but it has a number of easter-eggs/callbacks to this series).

Lots and lots of F this round...I can't believe you didn't like World's end Harem......J/k even by my low standards it's pretty trash.

If you like Gantz you might like Btooom!

Players of a virtual reality deathmatch-style game are kidnapped and transported to a remote tropical island where they have to play a real-life verson of the online game, and the stakes can mean almost certain death. Has a good element of strategy to it (players are given timed mines, remote mines, seeking mines, etc. and a radar to detect other players.)

A lot of people don't care for this manga but the art style is good, and I found the story engaging.

Just wanted to pop in and say Happy New Year to everybody (or at least close enough, I won't be online in 30 minutes). It's been a sloooooowwwww year for these threads, but I've decided to keep things going for another year.

Anyways, I was looking through my bookeeping and just realized I've been super lazy over this last year and haven't been doing my spreedsheet entries and now I've got to update it with about 250 series...ouch. I really need to do it in 3-4 month chunks next year.

When doing a quick lookover I did notice one really exciting milestone. I won't know for sure until I'm done doing the cataloging, but it looks like this year I may have crossed the 1,000 series and 1,000,000 pages mark! That's something I never would have predicted happening when I started reading manga back in '09.

Kinda wish I had kept track how many pages I've read. oh well I keep my mangalist fairly updated as of completed series. 1 million pages, jesus you are a machine especially how much utter shit you read sometimes just to review lol

Happy New Year guys! :)

RL has been busy lately so I couldn't read any of the manga that were recommended.

Has anyone watched RWBY? Husband showed me the other day and now we're both addicted lol.

Just finished Fullmetal Alchemist what a good manga that died with just one arc as it should.

I really like Btoom, but you might as well recommend the king of Deathmatch mangas.
