Anime and Manga v37

Would you recommend reading the manga or waiting for season 2?
You waited this long. May as well wait a little longer.

Plus if like these guys saying the manga was dragging ass, they'll probably have to do something to spice up the anime or they'll kill the golden goose.

Jinbei in the house. Sanji continues to get humiliated. Hope he cracks Pudding good but he doesn't hit women.

Brook confirmed Yonko level. Strongest new candidate for pirate king.

This has not been Sanji's arc. It's just been rough after rough for the poor guy.

Another chapter another Sanji being dragged through the mud moment.

I'm intrigued a manga by the creator of Ichi the Killer and artist of Crying Freeman. Shame, only the first two chapters have been translated.

Great fucking manga.

Ryoichi Ikegami??

Ghost in the Shell's Tachikoma Robots Under Development for Use in Customer Service

I'm not sure how practical this customer service is gonna be other than for otaku to nut themselves.

So I guess, on par for Japan then.

Ah, to live in Japan where an interest is in anime is considered the norm, and not an exception.

I am a Hero is indeed bizarre. The art is unique. Main character is just...I pick it up here and there but it's lacking something.

Just like the manga Believers . Just as strange if not more.

Hanazawa Kengo is a fucking strange artist. I have read his other translated works ( Ressentiment, Boys on the Run and one that was an assortment of short stories), and he's this bizarre ability to mix tragedy and comic relief, mostly in his main characters, that gets me deeply. Like, his main characters tend to have trashy qualities, in the sense that they are bullied, pervs, socially awkward... losers to some degree, but at the same time you get a laugh out of their absurd misadventures despite their suffering, and at one point of the story they may even shine bright.

Great fucking manga.

I remember watching the commentary for the movie, and Miike (I think it was him) commented wondering how Ichi hid the blade in his boot. Fuck the whole movie up for me, lol. Even in the manga now I often think how does he cut them in two? Wouldn't the blunt force of his boot smash their head in and not give a clean cut. I think too much on this, lol.

Glad to see Jinbe back , Im guessing that like Pedro he gave up years to his life , wonder if that prevents him from Joining the Strawhats. Sucks for Sanji but I think his redemption in this arc will be epic.

Pretty sure I just decided to stop bothering with review blurbs. I've got like 50 series on the backlog to write for and very little motivation to find new ways of saying "this sucked" over-and-over.

Yeah it's just one of those things I try not to think too much about. He's insanely strong, has massive leg muscles, and incredible kicking speed.

Ichi's actually one of my least favorite characters in the manga. All the crying, erections and masturbating is too much. I did like the look into how a Yakuza clan is run, and how the Anjougumi is full of so many interesting characters. Kakihara, Kaneko, the twins, etc. Ichi running through the entire gang felt like something out of Max Payne; one man's vendetta against a criminal enterprise, only spoiled by the S&M-centric showdown between Ichi and Kakihara.

I would have loved to see a follow-up manga that explores Jiji's past, and why he sent Ichi to take out the clan. Also maybe seeing Kakihara before and after he got his mouth scars, etc.

Just do the good ones like B and up then only include the really hard F ones to make it easy cause I like to read your thoughts on really awful ones.

Ah, fuck it. Here's the first batch.

Ana no Mufina - Ongoing - [C] - This shonen has an interesting setup, where the main character is possessed by a sort of trickster spirit and uses those abilities to solve mysteries. Unfortunately the artwork isn't very well rendered (one particular character is a mess and hard to parse) and the stories are really basic (not sure if that's because of the target audience or if the author is just not that good). Anyways, this is unfortunately totally skippable.
Baby - Ongoing - [B] - This artist has an odd sort of style. He seems to base characters loosely on actual actors, but never so close you would jump on them for infringing on likeness rights. The artwork is well drawn, but the story here isn't overly compelling and moves at a pace that seems faster than really necessary.
Back Street Girls - Washira Idol Hajimemashita - Ongoing - [F] - It's an absurd concept right from the start (three low ranking yakuza who screw up and are forced to get sex changes and become an idol group), but it seemed to have potential for some dark comedy. But the execution sucked and the artwork is terrrrrrrrrrrrrrible. I mean, wow, is it baaaaaddddddd.
Beast of East - Ongoing - [F] - At first this has a very compelling art style. The pages that are done in color are great to look at. But once it swaps to B&W it's a mess and very difficult to follow at a glance.
Demon Shrine - Ongoing - [F] - Webtoon that's not even a webtoon, it's a shitty webcomic that had no business being on the webtoon site.
Eigth - Ongoing - [F] - Pointless and dumb.
Gate - Jietai Kare no Chi nite, Kaku Tatakeri - Ongoing - [C] - This one never clicked with me. The concept isn't very original (modern world and fantasy world unexpectedly shoved together) and the tone is odd.
Ginga Densetsu Weed - Ongoing - [F] - Weird series about dogs. Sort of "Homeward Bound" or "Milo and Otis" -ish, but without any of the charm.
Harigane Service - Ongoing - [C] - This sports series about volleyball seems like it wants to be a mix of Eyeshield 21 and something more serious, but fails to strike that balance and ends up being absurd without any real payoff.
A Journey to the Past - Ongoing - [F] - Gave it a shot, but it's too attached to being a shoujo (especially the art, which is technically all right but the style is ugly as sin).
Magic Destroyer - Ongoing - [F] - Extremely lacking in content, and so unmemorable I had to go back and leaf through multiple chapters before I remembered what the hell it was about.
Mahou Shoujo of the End - Ongoing - [F] - Dumb. Obviously an author who thinks shock is a good substitute for substance. Something aimed squarely at edgy teens.
Mizukami Satoshi Tanpenshuu - Ongoing - [C] - Short series collection. Meh, I've never liked the format and this doesn't change my mind.
Revival Man - Ongoing - [B-] - Action/drama with an odd concept: the main character comes back to life after dying. Passable art and story, but won't win any awards.
Sengoku Youko - Complete - [C+] - Updated review now that this is done. I appreciate the author trying something different with this series, but it didn't really work out. In the end it was overly long and the swapping of main characters left me cold.
SStudy - Ongoing - [F] - Meh. If I wanted porn I'd go watch porn.
Sousei no Onmyouji - Ongoing - [C-] - It starts of as a passable shounen. Nothing great, but decent artwork and a story that seemed like it might have potential. Unfortunately that story turns into a massive and terrible cliche about two volumes in. Don't waste your time.
Terror Man - Ongoing - [F] - The art in this is mostly black and white with various splashes of color. That works for some series (I think Hellper does a fantastic job with that style) but here it just gives me a headache. Literally. I find it makes my eyes go bonkers and I can't read more than a full chapter without feeling cross-eyed.
Uratarou - Ongoing - [C] - Don't care for this artist's style. None of the characters or story did anything to overcome that dislike.
Yakusoku no Neverland - Ongoing - [C] - Extremely predictable. The author had a complete lack of subtly that undermined the shock they were going for with the story reveals

Damn, Sanji is just taking it this arc. Poor bastard. He might just say fuck his no hitting women thing and be like that dude who punched Snooki on Jersey Shore. Also Jimbei in the house and we finally get confirmation to what I've always known... Brooke is the strongest one in the crew.

Loved the one piece chapter Brooke is a boss he and Zoro are tied as my second favorite of the crew members

Here's fifteen more. Yay, only 20 more to go!
...*cries*

Aka Akatoretachi no Monogatari - Ongoing - [F] - Starts off sort of middling. Not really good but not really bad, mostly just forgettable. Kept at it hoping it would get interesting, instead it pulls out some of the most cliche tropes around and executes them with zero finesse.
Akagami no Shirayukihime - Ongoing - [F] - Shoujo series whose artwork isn't all that shoujo-esque so I thought it might be ok. Eh, no, not really. It still as the writing of a shoujo.
Bowling King - Ongoing - [C] - A sports series about bowling. That's a pretty niche topic, thought it might be interesting. Unfortunately there's no depth to the characters or plot and it gets dull quickly.
Dou Po Cang Qiong - Ongoing - [C] - This is a chinese series, and it's really similar to a lot of other chinese series. This one is a little better than most of its piers, but still super repetitive and the character never seems to really earn his powerups while also getting his ass saved by more powerful characters all the damn time. It's weird in that way, where he's somehow so much stronger than everybody else his age and yet has friends who are an order of magnitude more powerful who always pull him out of the fire when he takes one stuff out of his league.
Gosu - Ongoing - [B+] - This martial arts webtoon has really good artwork and some fantastic action sequences. Unfortunately it has a problem as it goes on where the fights start to grow stale and some of them last way longer than they should. With better variety and improved pacing this one would be a solid "A", but it's just not quite there.
Mora and Stima Apei - Ongoing - [F] - Interesting art, but yet another series that has no damn business being on the webtoon site.
Nukoduke! - Ongoing - [F] - This is too weird for me. It's not crass or violent or anything, just...odd. It's got these sort of cat-people things and...it's weird.
Queen Pegasus - Ongoing - [C] - This webtoon just wasn't interesting. Fairly good art, but not engaging on the narrative front.
Rise From Ashes - Ongoing - [F] - Damnitall webtoon, why do you do this?
World's End Harem - Ongoing - [F!] - WTF was this artist thinking? They make an ecchi series (and not a well executed one at that) and yet they can't draw tits. Like, it's bizarre how bad at them they are. The rest of the anatomy isn't much better, but the boobs are badly drawn on every single chick. The nipple placement is so strange on some as to be unintentionally comical.
The Woken - Ongoing - [C-] - Some nice artwork at times, but it really deosn't understand the medium. Too much expositionary text, and chapters don't have any meat to them.
Wu Dong Qian Kun - Ongoing - [F] - One of the worst offenders in the "chinese series with absurdly fast powerups that aren't at all earned" style series. Really, it's just pointless.
Yuragi-sou no Yuuna-san - Ongoing - [B+] - This is the first ecchi-comedy I've read in a long while that I've actually enjoyed. The artwork is competent, I actually laugh at most of the humor, and I generally like the characters. It doesn't manage to break out of the "B" rankings because it's a bit too repetitive.
Zui Wu Dao - Ongoing - [C] - This chinese sereis is a lot closer to japanese shonens than others I've read, but has the seemingly standard chinese problem of a main character who grows too fast without seeming to earn it.
Yuusha ga Shinda! - Ongoing - [F] - Weak artwork and lacking execution. Could have been funny, but the humor doesn't connect.

JBS did you ever review a manga called "Fire punch?"

Yeah it's just one of those things I try not to think too much about. He's insanely strong, has massive leg muscles, and incredible kicking speed.

Thinking of that too. Though I would think the sequel would follow the new Ichi going against a new villain. Explore more of Jiji's past, and have the original Ichi return.

Also don't know if you've checked out Adam to Eve but love the villain already. He's the complete opposite of Kakihara which is really cool, instead of being wild, hot headed, and violent this guy is level headed, smart, and well not AS violent, lol.

I hadn't heard of it but just read both chapters just now. Curious to see where they go with it!

Just scanned over Ressentiment and Boys on the Run. I think I'll continue reading Boys on the Run. Ressentiment was too cringe worthy, not my cup of tea. Love a good slice of manga to take up the time.

shine bright
Couldn't resist. Shine Brighter!!!

I loved that anime. Found out there were some sequel/epilogue movies made. Also, one of my browsers crashed and lost all of my tabs and fucked me over. :(
