I just saw the weigh in photos from last night
I noticed Andre Fili has gauged ears, the holes are more than big enough to fit a thumb in, let alone any other finger.

1) Are there rules in MMA against attack an opponents ears? Anything stopping an opponent from putting a finger in there are pulling in a fishhook motion?

2) Would the ref/doctor stop the fight if his opponent threw a strike, and a finger accidentally penetrated the hole and tore it open? Or by accident when applying a thai plum, or how about while grappling on the ground?


Seems like a pretty big liability for a fighter. As far as I know, he is the only fighter with gauged ears.

I dislike his look because he'd very handsome if he were clean-cut (no homo). That being said, who cares what he looks like? He's a fighter. The ear thing does seem dangerous to me, but in his last bout he taped them up, and he's been doing it for years so I don't see the problem. Seems like a great guy.

Depends on how big you go. Anything past 00g is the "point of no return" where your ears wont close back to around standard ear piercing size without burning it or stitching it.

You can go pretty big and your ears will go back to normal size after a while depending on the size.

Fili's would take some work to restore his to normal for sure.
