Anderson Silva's incredible misfortunes.

He fought nobodies in a weak division. Then went up and fought a passed it slow poke that was tailor made for him.

GSP is the true GOAT!!!

the shear diversity of the replies in this thread are a testament to just how much Anderson Silva has changed in the minds of mma fans all around the world. It's crazy to witness. Disappointing to be honest.

He's old. Should have retired after the second Chael fight. It was the perfect time.

The first Chael fight was pretty bad - showed that the "GOAT" was indeed human and had weaknesses and an impending downfall.

But you don't become one of the greatest of all time for nothing, despite even if he had thoughts that he was slowing down, he's a FIGHTER.. he wants to FIGHT ON and keep on going whether he wins or not. I remember when people were asking him if he'd be retiring soon , he replied by saying he wished to fight in the UFC at least 10 more times or something. I approve.

As far as Anderson Silva's misfortunes go - it's only a balance of karma to his incredible FORTUNES experienced for most of his mma career. He surely was on top of the world - but nothing lasts forever.

Nobody could predict that the fall would be so drastic, but a fall was indeed inevitable.

he didnt KO bisping

bisping was not unconcious and was saved by the bell not herb dean

anderson wouldnt have had time to land another shot even if he wasnt trying to celebrate

literal definition of saved by the bell

and silva then went on to completely give away round 4

nothing unlucky about it, just anderson being an idiot

Silva celebrating did give Bisping a lot of additional recovery time.

I'm with you, Thucky. (By the way, three of the five bands in your av are in my top ten.)

I knew my all time favorite fighter wouldn't be the king forever, but his fall has been just as terrible as his reign was legendary. I've often run these same thoughts through my head.

Indeed. What may have been a ploy by Anderson to make the fight stop regardless of Herb telling him it's not over may have backfired and justly so. You LISTEN when the ref is telling you something - whether you agree with him or not. Don't go off in your own little world and ignore when he is giving you instructions. (follow my instructions at all time).

Not something you see everyday now is it? = luck

Thank you

The term has been taken way to seriously by the people in this thread and in fact it was almost just a discussion on the english word "luck" rather than a discussion on Anderson Silva. But that's Sherdog for ya.

Misfortune implies he's been unlucky. Every single thing that has happened to him is his fault except for the leg break.

He lucked out against Sonnen in both fights as well. In the first he pulled off a miracle submission. The second could've easily been ruled a DQ.

Funny how Anderson couldn't pull the trigger against Bisping until the guy was clearly looking away to get his mouth piece back.

I wasn't an Anderson fan before but this guy is nearly as dirty as Jones.

What is amazing about Anderson is that in that first Sonnen fight, he was dropped by a pillow punch. This means that in training he would have known he was ageing. He would have known his reflexes and chin were going, and yet he kept fighting. He could have easily retired, but he didn't… Now, every day he must known that he can't do half of what he used to and he still keeps fighting.

Obviously it's in his blood. He doesn't give a shit about 'ruining' his legacy in some peoples eyes. Dude just loves to fight.

Cheater, liar, asshole.

No misfortunes, just a guy whose ego got out of control.

Breaking your leg on a checked kick is pretty unlucky considering it doesn't happen often. Outside of that, luck had very little to do with it.

I think his ego beat him against Bisping. He was too busy trying to be Anderson Silva. To Bisping's credit he really brought it and put pressure on Anderson.

Still though, there's no way Anderson should lose to Michael Bisping. That's on him, not bad luck.

How funny would it be if he actually never took steroids and just tried a viagra once, and it was contaminated. He's taking his situation extremely well if that's the case too.

Crazy that an Anderson Silva running at 50% can still decision Nick Diaz, and put a brutal beating on Bisping. Although he lost the decision to Bisping, he fucked him up pretty good. Had it been a real life fight to the death I think we all know who would have won.

So,, for years the dude is # 1 on the P4P charts, breaking records left and right going 16-0 in the ufc with many amazing finishes being considered the GOAT.. Then BAM!

He has now not had a W on his record since 2012, his fight against Bonnar.

Dude loses his belt in devastating fashion, getting clipped on his chin as he is doing his "clowning" routine trying to outclass Weidman but backfires causing him to lose the fight and his belt.

The second time around.. he is given a second chance as he WAS 16-0 prior and he was being stupid in the fight - so hey, maybe he'll fight right this time and come out with a W?

Wrong.

Instead he gets this:

Damn. That's some bad luck huh? Not taking anything away from Weidman, it was a beautiful check.

Anyways so the guy finally gets two loses on his record the first time ever tasting defeat in the ufc. Surely he will bounce back some degree right? Well let's find out.. lets get him to fight Nick Diaz.

Well.. great! looks like he's back to his winning ways, right? Get's a UD victory over Diaz. Once again, wrong. Guy for one reason or another decides to take banned substances he's says to treat erectile dysfunction - but after suffering a devastating injury surely it had something to do with that. Not only that but many people speculate as to former PED use, calling his legacy a sham. Fight is chaged to NC.

Well.. now, he fight Bisping. At first he doesn't look very good, he is not attacking very often, Bisping is landed many shots. Then, BAM!

End of the round 3, he KO's Bisping! YAY! The Spidar is back!!

But..wait. no. The fight is, NOT OVER! An issue regarding Bispings mouthpiece causes Herb Dean to decide that the fight will indeed go on, what does Silva do? He starts celebrating, very happy that he finally has a clear win again and jumps on the cage to embrace the crowd. While doing this, Bisping is given a ton of time to recover during the confusion and if Silva would have just SAT AND WAITED, MAYBE, the fight would have been called. Pure speculation but what happened was two more rounds.

Some say Silva went on to win these rounds, but to the judges it just wasn't enough. Bisping walks away at the end with 3 rounds to 2 and becomes the first man to win a fight he was KNOCKED OUT IN.

God Damn. That's is one hell of a streak of shit luck.

Can you think of any other fighter that has has such terrible luck? Yeah, this was all his fault but you got to admit.. the circumstances of his last 4 fights are strange indeed.

I used to watched a Silva fight and think in my head, "Okay, how is going to fuck this person up?"

Now I think, "Ok, how is going to fuck this one up."

EDIT: People are taking the "LUCK" term a little to seriously, I didn't mean it that literally so changed thread title to "Misfortunes". More of what I meant. So now, can we discuss the content talked about rather than the terms used to describe said content? Thanks.
i agree ts...

not sure exactly what you looking to discuss though... its pretty much like you said.

i havent even read the thread yet, but im sure there will be 98% of people talking shit about silva.
you need to understand this is sherdog... AS was always hated on here. no way around that.... to be honest, this forum is incredibly biased against brazilian fighters in general. period. not the place to really bring these threads to...

Yep you nailed it. They also hate Jones, Aldo, Ronda, Conor (the other half loves him, me along with another 5% just feel neutral), and GSP's style. At least they don't hate GSP himself.

The only guy that gets a good treatment on here is Fedor.

Bisping would be a win if he simply followed up, bell or not. He created the chaos which lead to his loss there. I am not sure he could beat the Chris even if he didn't fuck around, but he did, again his own fault, should have kept his fucking hands up and he took whatever it was that made him fail the PED test. Athletes are responsible for whatever is in their bodies. I would have MUCH rather hear that he juiced to recover from that nasty injury, but nope, he was still clowning, hadn't learned his lesson, so that is on him.

How do you feel sorry for someone who literally brings all of their troubles upon themselves?
