Title says it all. I am a fan of both movies and believe they are the best the werewolf genre has to offer. Which do you like more and why?

An American Werewolf by far

Pure classic

American Werewolf for sure, was quite amusing to be honest

AW it isn't even close, The Howling had some fun ideas but just wasn't that great of a movie.

i tend to agree american werewolf is the better of the two. the fx, scares, comedy and soundtrack are all great. the howling is a strong second place though. it had a great transformation scene in its on right and the scene where the newscaster transforms live on air used to trip me out as a kid.

Would you rank The Howling higher than Dog Soldiers? The first time I saw Dog Soldiers I thought it was great but it did not deliver in the repeat viewing.

look, i have watched these movies a lot. i mean, i seen both of these movies with and without commentary a shitload.
I would say over the last 3 months, i have seen the howling 10 times and american werewolf 5 times. no shit.

the howling is by far the better movie. it is fucking awesome. it is under appreciated. there is more going on that just some horror movie. it is kind of trying to say a bit about our animal instincts without being too on the nose about it.

american werewolf is great too. it is fun. but i would put the Howling as one of THE best horror movies of the 80s. i mean, it is just fucking awesome. the wrewolves and transformations are good in both.
but the werewolves in the howling are sometimes pervy creepy or hot or ... lol

i don't want to spoil it for you. but just go into the movie and have fun.

even if you decide to watch american werewolf first, go back and watch the howling. just great movie.

edit: i see you saw them.

American werewolf for sure, The Howling was still a decent film

The transformation scene in American Werewolf was fucking brilliant. But by far the best scene was the guy going up the elevator and the werewolf coming towards him and you can see him at the bottom of the escalator.

AWIL all day long the FX for the time are still good till this day, the howling moved too slow for me but that's just my taste. I did enjoy some of the howling sequels growing on when the Sci-fi channel was in it's prime showing mostly horror.......fuck I miss that channel.

American Werewolf by a massive amount. I honestly liked bad moon more than the Howling.

I put the classic movie over the one that's just OK and doesn't hold up well at all.

American Werewolf in London has one of the best scenes in cinematic history with the transformation scene. Absolute gold.

No knock to 'The Howling', but 'An American Werewolf in London' takes this contest easy.

Someone else in the thread mentioned 'Dog Soldiers'. That's another rare werewolf gem, but in this list I'd probably put it at #3.

have you seen it lately?

do you remember anything about american werewolf outside of the transformation?

i'd say the only part that does not hold up of howling is the cartoon wolf fucking

Eddie is awesome in it. i think the actual werewolves in the howling look better. the scene in the porn theater is great too.
and marsha is fucking hot

a news anchor turning into a pussy ass werewolf and getting shot on air is not as good?

i mean, come on, pussy werewolf for god's sake
