.... I can't even begin to conceive of a world in which somebody actually thinks this is true. Have you even been to Europe? Set aside black people entirely, are you literally so devoid of brain cells that you think all racism towards (for example) Gypsies/Muslims/Jews has "disappeared"? I remember working at a German law firm and hearing one of the German attorneys rail against 'foreigners' and their 'criminal ways,' something that would be inconceivable (and automatic grounds for termination) at an American law firm. France is even worse in this respect than Germany. Spain and Italy, worse still. Russia and Eastern Europe, worse still.

Now, it's true that blacks do better off economically in most European countries relative to whites, but then again (a) everybody is more equal in most European countries, entirely irrespective of racism; and (b) blacks in European countries are tiny numbers of relatively elite emigrants, the people who could afford to pay to leave their old African countries/Caribbean islands, not poor folks who got grabbed by slavers and forced to work on plantations.

Same thing in the US, btw, our West Indies black immigrants and West African immigrants make VASTLY more money, and are far better educated, than our native black citizens.

I haven't read through this thread but let me give my perspective. I was in the Army for 8 years as an active duty Infantryman. I served on both American soil and foreign soil, through multiple duty assignments and deployments. I left the Army as an NCO and I can tell you that its not anywhere close to uncommon for soldiers to hide out indoors or in their car if they know its anywhere close to 1700.

What she did is something that happens all the time, and the only folly she made was posting about it on Instagram so that civilians could overreact. The soldiers overreacting are the worst, though, because I promise you this is something they have done at least once.

Cut the poor girl some slack.

Ducking colors is a minor punishment the only thing is if the post on why she was ducking colors is her then that's different and if it's an on going thing with hear.

Most of the complaints about this to which I've hear made no mention of why. I've read people make comments only knowing that she was ducking and they lost their mind over it. Incredible.

But her reasoning why - its a joke. If it was that important to her she never would have joined and she wouldn't wear the flag she refuses to salute on her shoulder. But then again, females in the military are held to such a low standard that acting surprised by her actions is something I couldn't claim to do.

My dad was in during the Vietnam era and saw two black soldiers get busted and demoted for saluting with the black power fist instead of the salute.

Guys in world war two were literally rioting to get out of the Army after VE day and had to be kept under armed guard when transported to the Pacific for the (planned) invasion of Japan.

There have always been people in the service that didn't want to be there.

The distinction now is that it's an all volunteer Army, so there's really no excuse.
