I think time travelers did it just to mess with people
Also, people like Graham Hancock and Christopher Dunn have something to offer in terms of expertise, even if some of their ideas aren't on point. Both are extremely experienced in their fields...Hancock has about as much actual field archeology experience as anyone alive even though he's not an academic and Dunn is a machine tool maker and I believe worked on projects for JPL.
.
I once had an idea for a book where Leonardo DaVinci was actually a young time traveler who got stuck in the 1400's. And then he spends the rest of his life trying to recreate the comforts of home with varying success.
you should write that. I'd read that. Reminds me of a short story I did in college where Santa Claus used christmas to cover up his kleptomania.
hancock is the man. I have a few of his books. He was also pretty good on Rogans podcast. Really enjoyed it since it wasn't all about his expertise so much, as more about the person himself.
he's been on 3 or 4 times actually. His story about getting hip surgery and asking if he could watch while they did it is awesome.
One day I might write up a beefed up outline just to see if I actually have a story arc there. I feel like the climax of the book would either be getting stuck or realizing that he didn't have the knowledge/tools/resources to recreate what he wanted/missed.
i've only heard the one that starts out with them talking about his recent experience in a isolation chamber. I'll have to look up the others. Do you have the episode numbers by any chance?
You should do in the style of science fiction. That way you can add in non factual plot points to Da Vinci to juice up the story. Seriously, it's a good idea.

Even with the water thing wasn't the quarry a long ways away? Wouldn't it take an unbelievable amount of water to help cope with friction to drag a single stone across the desert? 2.3 million blocks and all they needed was wet sand, not buying it. I'm an engineer by the way although I can't say that I am an expert on wood digging into sand physics I just think it's unlikely to move all those blocks in any reasonable time frame just by wetting the sand.
Also you make a good point in that ok sure assume that works for pulling the blocks, now tell me how they positioned them so precisely. I doubt we could do much better with 2015 surveying technology let alone whatever the hell these folks had. What did they reference to even think of setting up this geometry and positioning? It would honestly be an incredible feat for todays technology.
The level of accuracy is just astonishing. I mean imagine dragging 2.3 million blocks across the desert and for EACH one of them you not only drag it around but some dick head if whipping you telling you to pull it an extra millimetre this way...no that way...little more...ok too much back the other way...
On the topic of restoration, fuck that. Preservation? Sure do what you can to keep it in tact as long as you can but no way do you dare 'restore' it.
I don't think that idea is totally crazy but if it is true it's only partially true. It would make the construction easier, but it created a whole new set of issues...namely how did they get composite limestone, de-fragment it and than become expert cement masons in a time when nothing like that was supposed to be known?
got a problem with old threads brah? The real issue is how the hell do you melt limestone? Limestone degrades and decomposes to calcium (Ca) and carbonate (CO3)... you're not melting limestone and then pouring it like you would concrete. Not a chance in hell, at all, this is what happened.
Edit : didn't realize this thread was so old... whoops!
I find huge hotels with all the wiring. Plumbing, ac units, electricity, and building materials more impressive then the pyramids.
I'm not impressed by stones built in triangle shapes that's why.
