Almost half the comments on Dana's latest X post are about Jones/Aspinall

>Tom doesn't have a fight
>Jones hasn't been stripped
>Dana says calm down guys, We'll talk about it soon
>Main events are booked for pretty much every event up to September either officially or unofficially
>Madison square garden comes up after the summer schedule is over
>Jones vs stipe was booked for madison square garden, fell through, rebooked for a similar date, same venue the next year
>MSG usually the biggest fights possible
>Khamzat vs dricus booked August
>Volk Booked September for mexico
>Islam vs JDM probably in UAE
>Jones vs Tom aspinall takes place at madison square garden this fall

None of this is in my head by the way, It's actually easily observable in the world you live in, you'd just need to open your eyes
All you had to say was Jones ONLY wants to fight once a year at MSG.

The most hilarious are the ones here on Sherdog that say stuff like "All these tens and tens of thousands of people signing petitions and flooding Dana's X with comments are stupid. Don't they understand that Nobody cares about Aspinall or even know who he is?"

Reminds me of the old Yogi Berra quip about some restaurant..."Nobody goes there anymore, it's way too crowded."

Maybe someone can win JBJ tell all

i find his haters have way more to say and way more threads to make
I think this is the majority opinion though.

Summary of Key Findings:
Overall, a large segment of MMA fans believe Jon Jones is “ducking” Tom Aspinall, expressing frustration and calling for him to be stripped of his title if the fight isn’t booked soon. Polls show a majority of fans favor Aspinall as the rightful opponent—and even potential champion—over Jones or alternative matchups.

Fan Sentiment

Accusations of Ducking

  • Many fans accuse Jones of “ducking” Aspinall, labeling him cowardly or overly cautious. Comments such as “biggest duck in UFC history” and calls to strip his title reflect widespread ire
  • On social media and forums, supporters of Aspinall criticize Jones’s brand-focus and mixed signals (retirement talk vs. fight announcements) as stalling the division and wasting Aspinall’s prime .

Support for Aspinall

Fans want Aspinall in—many see him as the rightful challenger who deserves his shot, and even the undisputed belt, if Jones continues to delay. This view is echoed in articles and social posts urging the UFC to “fight Tom or vacate the belt”

“Fight Tom or Vacate” Twitter Poll (May 2024)

When Jones himself ran a direct poll asking who he should fight—Aspinall or Alex Pereira—fans overwhelmingly chose Aspinall, with many campaigning to strip Jones if he refused

Conclusion

MMA fans broadly view Jones’s hesitancy to face Aspinall as detrimental to the heavyweight division, with a clear majority favoring Aspinall as the next (or only acceptable) opponent. While a small and vocal minority defend Jones’s prerogative over matchmaking and legacy planning, the prevailing sentiment is one of frustration, impatience, and calls for decisive UFC action—either by booking the fight or vacating the belt.

That’s how it works, they have to offer fights, or pay him show money three times a year

I just heard Jimmy Smith mention that the other day if that helps… obviously they aren’t gonna announce that’s what’s happening but it’s public knowledge that’s how it works
Nah u don't get paid until you fight.

Very much a conspiracy, but i always feel like the UFC management don't want to mess up having a legit sport GOAT. All sports with a longer history have that 1 name that stands out above the rest and are used as a marketing tool.

Jones is the guy i feel they want to keep as that.

Sorry,, I've been blocked by Dana ever since he didn't sign Askren the first time and he said he needs a few more wins first.

It's pretty unanimous across all forums and MMA opinions that the strong majority can't stand Jones and that his legacy will be weak.
he found a way to tarnish his own legacy in a worse way. The level of protection he's getting makes me question his legitimacy as a GOAT candidate. How much of it was real and how much was manufactured to sell fights? We know he used steroids, but for how long? He lost to Reyes, but was that just a mistake by the judges or the game was rigged from the start?

not insane ask for a 17 time ufc title winner if I'm being honest.
And I don't disagree with that, provided a division and title progression isn't being held up unnecessarily while doing so. Jon and the UFC are both guilty parties in that respect. I have never had an issue with Jones fighting whenever he wants or whoever he wants, as long as he's not holding up the division doing it. I wish he would fight Tom. I want to know who's the real deal.

Anyone paying to watch Jon doesn't give a shit there's a belt around his waist or not, they're still going to pay for it.

Jon's term as "HW champ" will never really be taken seriously in MMA circles. Fighting Tom could validate Jon, which he has no interest in doing right now.

You’re completely wrong but okay

I hate to be that guy, but I think you're in the wrong here. And if I am, I apologize in advance... but...

It is my understanding the UFC only has to offer any fighter three fights a year, and is simply to fulfill the obligation on the UFC's part to make bout offers. The fighter can refuse, but they don't get paid or "show" money for doing it. The UFC just uses the fight refusal as a means to extend fight contracts and keep the fighter under control. And it doesn't mean fighters fight 3 times a year. Most don't, at least not anymore, lol.

Jon can't fight professionally anwhere else without the UFC's permission, belt or not. Jon's not just bound by the champion's clause, he's 2 fights into an 8-fight deal IIRC.

I would be perfectly fine with if it he wasn't holding a belt hostage for years.

Legends get granted privileges, but they are usually not demanding it in the blatant way Jon is. I have a very hard time seeing Fedor, GSP, Anderson Silva, or Mighty Mouse acting in such a disrespectful manner.

It's the equivalent of a famous person pulling the "Do you know who I am?"-card to get favorable treatment.

Not a likeable trait and it will surely reflect on his "legacy".

When sherdog votes GDR vs Cyborg as biggest duck before Jones (from 8 years ago), this shit is going to stick for a while
Exactly.

Especially if Tom Aspinall keeps winning and breaks the HW title defense record, and becomes the HW GOAT. Then Jon Jones legacy will be the guy that ducked the true GOAT.

Whereas Jon could fight Tom now, and he could beat him. Then nothing Tom does could eclipse Jon's legacy.

I don't think Jon's legacy as a fighter is at stake or at risk of being tainted. He's at absolute worst a top 4 MMA fighter when he retires.

His legacy as a man continues to shrivel. Closeted homosexual, drug cheat, menace to society scum of the Earth and now also insecure in his abilities. Not a great look.

Don't trust "public knowledge" my friend. The public is dumb.

In the several UFC contracts that have been publicly released there is no fight offers per year language only that the UFC must offer the contracted number of fights during the contract period.

I think most of us would agree it would be nice if there was some kind of fight frequency clause with penalties for inactivity, but I don't think anything like that is legal with independent contractors.
