Stipe wasn't in his prime during either of those fights. Young doesn't necessarily mean prime

You should question everything. Nothing is certain in any sport or fight and the GOAT is as subjective as it gets.

But stipe does have a good claim to that title regardless of what anybody’s opinion is, the career speaks for itself. He did what nobody else had ever done. His win column is full of legendary names. He proved himself in a trilogy over an all time great.

Stipe is the truth and is the tip of the spear when you talk about heavyweight MMA in terms of talent, skill and accomplishments. Very few names belong in the same category.
 
IMO the HW division is for entertainment, not for deep analysis.

One dude wants to be a firefighter, another a boxer or a FIFA player. It doesn't seem like there's the same level of dedication to the sport like in the other divisions.

You’re crazy if you don’t think stipe is as dedicated as other champions. Having a part time job doesn’t disqualify someone from being as dedicated as others. He was still a full time fighter his entire career
 
It would be interesting to see what would have happened if Werdum rematched Stipe and was able to get him down.

This is typical Sherdog Sh!t. Did he beat the best JDS? Who fucking knows. Did he beat the best Werdum? Well Werdum was UFC champion so of course not. Prime Werdum ended literally 1 second before Stipe KO'd him.

Seriously WTF!!! Here is where you can stop discrediting wins in a fighters resume by wondering if they were still good when he beat them. All of those you listed were UFC HW champion. Cormier had 1 defense. JDS had 1 defense. Cain had 2 defenses. Frank had 1 defense. JDS lost to Cain who lost to Werdum who lost to Stipe who lost to DC who lost to Stipe who lost to Frank.

That's 5 defenses for 4 of the last 5 guys that held the UFC HW title. Stipe has 4 defenses and held the title twice. He beat 3 of those 4 but never faced Cain. Every fighter defending the belt is facing a guy who is at the top of their game. Maybe not their 100% Supreme version of themselves but nobody beats that version as being your supreme self you wouldn't lose.

Stipe is better than all of the previous UFC HW champions.

Probably not so good man. Werdum was almost 39 in their first fight and 1 1/2 years later he was underperforming and cracking at the seams. Not long after that USADA came knocking

Fedor as HW GOAT and Stipe as UFC HW GOAT seem like the obvious choices.
 
Stipe doesn't have many quality wins, so it's hard for me to call him the greatest anything. Yes, he defended the belt, but it's not like he defended against young killers. He beat some past their prime fighters and a green Ngannou to defend the belt. If he beat fighters like Cyril Gane, Curtis Blaydes, Tom Aspinall or any of these Russian fighters coming up then he would have a good case. He was just fortunate to have the belt at the time that he had it. Stipe would get eaten alive in today's heavyweight division. He's a good boxer and he's tough, but he is not a complete MMA fighter. Having 0 submission victories supports that.
 
Stipe is the UFC HW GOAT. He is not the MMA HW GOAT. It's really that simple.

You know that's not true. Context is everything in a career. That's why casuals think BJ Penn is shit looking at his record. They dont pay attention to the context of his wins and losses.

I'm not saying Stipe doesn't have a good resume.

Context of BJ's losses were he was a shot fighter. When he fought GSP he was at the top of his game. When he fought for the LW title vs Sherk he was at the top. Pretty much every fighter getting a title shot with rare exceptions (Conor cough, cough) is pretty much at the top of their game.

Bisping, Hendo, Masvidal, Ray Borg.. not all title shots are earned. Especially in the HW division. Stipe was only on a 2 fights win streak before challenging Werdum for the title.

JDS had only one win in his pocket when he got his rematch against Stipe. He had previously been knocked out by Overeem.

I think it's sad that this is even a debate... And I'm a former Jon Jones Hater ! Don't believe me check my history of posts about him. Anyone who doubts Jon Jones is now officially the GoaT, due to his resume, due to his longevity, even though he had to go through multiple suspensions which is his fault but it should have hindered his march to GoaTness, but it didn't. He beat ALL the good guys. Go look at his fight history on Wikipedia, or watch this video if you need a reminder of who this guy is.
