All Time GOAT poll

Let's say GSP got his belt as the underdog from the reigning, defending, undisputed, favorite champion, while Jones got a random interim belt as the favorite by beating an underdog, unproven, never-that-good kickboxer coming of a loss to a Ngannou with both knees amputated <36>
JJ=Paper champ confirmed, ran from Ngannou, steroid cheat, and lost to Reyes & Santos (and had a draw with Gus)

... I think we can spin this; plus, for once the majority got it right:
  1. GSP

    2,131 vote(s)
    34.6%
  2. Fedor

    1,609 vote(s)
    26.1%
  3. Silva

    537 vote(s)
    8.7%
  4. Jones

    1,357 vote(s)
    22.0%
The order of the MMA Rushmore should remain the same. <mma4>

Fedor and GSP have the advantage of being natty, while Jones and Anderson pissed hot multiple times

wait wait wait...didn't GSP cherrypick an easy Bisping at a higher weight class then take off before defending the belt? What am I missing here? Stop taking away this accomplishment by Jones, it was a great win!

Well, you could say that, for instance, Bisping was the favorite against GSP, so Michael was the one who cherry-picked a rusty, ill, blown-up WW who was on a 3 years break, instead of taking on the real MW elites.

From there, similar to Ping, Jones ran from Ngannou, and then cherry-picked a smaller guy (Jones was heavier in the cage) he was a 2 to 1 favorite against.

I'm not saying Jones win isn't good, but GSP's win was more impressive, since he was the underdog and not the favorite like Jones, so when you see how haters discredit GSP's MW title nowadays
(reread your own post for a free sample, you claim GSP "took off before defending" when the guy had to relinquish the title because his illness was even more serious than anticipated, when he could have stalled and kept the belt for a long time),

you can already tell that Jones' interim title win will be even easier to dismiss.

This is what sherdog's Heavies are all about, defending your personal pick from the MMA Rushmore by constantly pissing on the other 3's achievements.
If you want to congratulate fighters, do it on twitter <DisgustingHHH>

But seriously, Jones fans had a few hours to celebrate, they got theirs like we GSP fans got ours a few years back, now back to business as usual!

Fair enough...one major difference though. Jones will defend his title after winning it. I like both guys but you can always find fault in any fighter that can be turned around on your guy. I like the celebratory attitude more but i've been a long time lurker and am aware of the negativity and flame wars between fan bases.

Well, we don't know if Jones will defend, for all we know he'll piss hot next and get kicked out, or something else will happen.

But hey, most post was mostly tongue-in-cheek, the fanbase warz are only a part of the "sherdog experience".

I'm just salty because I'm a big fan of Ciryl Gane, and I thought he would do much better against Jones

I still say Khabib's the GOAT. Gane's a bitch, I'm not that impressed with Jones submitting him. Now if Jon can beat Francis, then I'll reevaluate things.

That would definitely call for a re-evaluation, hopefully we get to see it. I think I'm in the Khabib P4P camp too even though I was never really a fan...gotta call it as I see it.

Gane is legit...8-1 UFC record coming in, I get the frustration. Good point on pissing hot though, Jones has done it many times...hence why he is not a runaway winner in P4P. GSP did not fight during the USADA era, I assume he was clean, but do you ever think he wasn't, just curious.

Except for his layup against Bisping, GSP didn't fight in the USADA era.

So you think GSP came back to move up to 185, after a career of cheating during the non USADA period at 170, and competed clean?

I have some oceanfront property in Oklahoma, Arizona, Kansas...

Jones is the GOAT and it’s not even close anymore. Cut out all the BS, it’s Man vs. Man, and Jones has never ever lost, undefeated. Jones has also fought the best, Jones has beaten the best. Wins over so many great legends, his resume is unparalleled.

Khabib 13-0 in his entire UFC career.

Jones 15-0 in UFC Title Fights alone.

I am glad for Jones and respect him a lot. Another poster brought up the USADA pops which do hurt Jones in the discussion. He also lost to Reyes imo (I was cheering heavily for Jones in that fight too). Those are nitpicks...great win for Jones last night and excited to see what is next for him and the division.

Looking at it objectively, the only two fights an opponent was close to Jones was Gustafson and Reyes, every other performance Jones was dominant. GSP has 2 losses on his record and the Hendricks fight was one of the biggest robberies in UFC history. GSP then retired after the entire world wanted to see a rematch. Jones is officially cleared of prior USADA suspensions as per new updated USADA guidelines. Also an estimated 5000+ fighters in MMA leagues worldwide combined have tested positive for PED, how come we only have Jones and Silva in the Goat conversation? Ultimately God given ability and skill triumphs. Anyone saying Jones isn’t the GOAT is using straw man arguments. Is Jones not a great ambassador for the sport, probably. Is GSP a nicer dude, probably. But wtf does that have to do with the best fighter. Everything put aside, It’s Man vs. Man, and Jones is the Greatest.

Lots of truth there. The thing about Jones is that he is athletically gifted enough and has the size to play NFL or any other sport he wanted...he is a better athlete than a lot of these guys and that helps also with stamina which is key in MMA.

lol Don't come up with that A level athlete bullshit sherdorks like to talk about.. please

Jones is easily the goat. Faced much stronger opponents than Fedor, and would destroy both Fedor and GSP in a fight.

It's a fact though. Not sure why we cannot bring up facts on this site. I am new so maybe I missed that in the community guidelines.

Sherdog needs to allow us to vote again after big fights. Start again, every fighter with zero votes

i dont get how anyone can pick fedor over Jones, GSP, or Anderson.. Yes he had a nice run but once you have the belt in the UFC you are almost always fighting the number 1 guy every single time with no break... i m sorry there are way to many cans in Fedors list of opponents to relate it to the rest.. fedor has his chance to come to the UFC and cement his legacy, he decided to lose to MW's in another Org. IMHO its jones -GSP top 2 silva 3 .

No, I’m just saying that the majority out his career he didn’t even have to worry about USADA. Perhaps he would have popped if USADA was around back then.

And he could have easily pulled a Connor for the Bisping fight, and just bulked up with “supplements” before jumping back into the testing pool.
