Jones doesn't look built for HW at all, but his skills are as sharp as ever. Congrats, champ!

Heavyweight lacks any real talent.

Jon now technically from a skill perspective has more talent than any other heavyweight I can think of.

I met him before his ufc run. He was competing at a small ammy grappling tourney in Ithaca, NY. He was already locally famous for his all-American wrestling background and being an insane athlete. The team competition was first, where Jon subbed every heavyweight within a round except one Sambo guy who went the distance. Like just ragdolled the biggest dudes and yanked their limbs nearly off. These dudes mostly being the coaches of the teams and most experienced competitors at the event.

Then the individual competition starts and suddenly Jon is out on the mat in the novice division, the white belt he was matched against was too scared to go out. They had to stop the event while Jon tried to argue this was his first “submission” grappling tourney and although he was the best wrestler in the state and had been training grappling for clearly a long time, he was a beginner like these freshman who have been training for 5 months. It would have been like Mike Tyson showing up at a YMCA boxing class and calling out the newest member. Public execution .

Left that day thinking he was the best combat sports athlete I’d ever seen in person and that must be what UFC guys are made of and also one of the most fucked up, twisted competitors I’d encountered who had no remorse.

Lets ignore the picogram debacle. How many chumps are still claiming Fedor is the best fighter to ever do it? Dude was gone for years and moved up in weight to demolish the best HW the UFC has. Blades would be interesting but I doubt Jones takes that. Stipe vs Jones makes sense to me.

When it comes down to it the whole idea of P4P is just fantasy. If someone was to ask you who'd win in a fight a bear or a wolf you'd say a bear. Bears are bigger and being bigger is an advantage just like being faster. The best fighter in the world is always going to be the guy who runs through the heavier weight classes whether or not you believe they have as much skill. You can argue whether you think GSP has more skill in certain areas but prime JBJ beats prime GSP therefore he's better.
 
Let's say GSP got his belt as the underdog from the reigning, defending, undisputed, favorite champion, while Jones got a random interim belt as the favorite by beating an underdog, unproven, never-that-good kickboxer coming of a loss to a Ngannou with both knees amputated <36>
JJ=Paper champ confirmed, ran from Ngannou, steroid cheat, and lost to Reyes & Santos (and had a draw with Gus)
