I always leave out DJ and Aldo for some reason. Fedor should rightfully be like #6 due to his lack of defenses and quality of opposition.

Arguably none of the usual candidates should be in the top five. Some for failing drug test (everyone uses, but failing is especially bad), some for lack of defenses and quality of opposition, some for lack of finishes.

The fun thing about these subjective lists is that everyone gets to make their own criteria, its like arguing about the best style of music (classical, jazz, rock, blues, country etc) or best type of pizza (pineapple on pizza should be a federal offense) -- a lot of fun, but 100% arbitrary. I like your approach, toss the usual candidates (Jones, GSP, Anderson, Fedor, Khabib) out of the top five for their failures and start looking at other people.

You have to look at their whole career, including how it ended. If you do, then there's no question who the greatest is.

If Fedor retired at 32 like GSP or Khabib he would be undisputed.
Same thing with RJJ after winning the HW title.
Those Ls hurt his legacy in the end though.

If we disregard different rules they fought under, or ring vs cage, weight class, or other variables, and just go by record alone, this is the difference on paper:
In GSP's 28 fights, he was 26-2 with 14 finishes (7 in the first 5 minutes) but got finished twice in the first round.
In Fedor's first 28 fights, he was 27-1 with 20 finishes (15 in the first 5 minutes) and was never defeated by his opponent.

Fedor never lost in his prime, he was also more entertaining than boring ass GSP.

Fedor is the lord of everything. After him,is GSP and Khabib

Fedor had 41 fights compared to 28 fights for GSP. Fedor fought some cans but also fought the best opposition available as did GSP. Fedor fell harder while being semi active while GSP just sorta faded away & retired. GSP lost in his prime whereas Fedor lost slightly after his prime (his last prime fight was Tim Sylvia - he started abandoning his sambo / submission game in favor of headhunting & looking more out of shape after that fight). GSP said Fedor was the P4P best fighter when both when in their prime so I’ll take GSP’s word for it.

I am not a Fedor fan at all, in fact I usually rooted against him. That said, he fought in the hardest division to consistently win in, and went almost 10 years, losing only one fight on a freak cut in that whole time! Fedor was not a big HW either, yet he consistently beat bigger guys than him.

Doesn't GSP consider Fedor the GOAT.

Wow. Jonathan and Anderson got a lot of votes considering how many times they got busted cheating with performance enhancing drugs. SmDh

If this poll ever puts Jones or anyone else that isn’t Fedor over GSP one day, that’s the day the universe is telling me sherdog has gone full retard and it’s time to leave for good. But it seems that there’s still a glimmer of hope that not everyone in here is fucking stupid
Jones had a good run. What to do with that?

Confused why Royce Gracie not on the list. He could cut to lw and beat heavweights.
