While I would agree they certainly do not count as much as your prime run, the career stats still matter in a GOAT talk which is a talk about the fighters CAREER.

For instance if Fedor had beat Bader and won that tournament I bet many would add that to his GOAT resume and he would be winning this poll right now.

You cannot have a fighter benefiting from 'Past his Prime' fights but then saying there is no detriment if he loses. Agree?

Penn was never going to be in GOAT discussion. And that was due to losses he had during his prime. It was due to his bad cardio even during his prime. Best LW ever? Maybe. but best ever no ones put him in the discussion for a reason even during his prime.

and "past your prime" fights I don't think add benefits or detriments to your career period.

Well, you also have to realize GSP retired at 32 while Fedor is still fighting at 42. Both of their legacies were already sealed by 32 years old and they also both declined around that age it seems. GSP retired at 32 after struggling with Hendricks and his multiple knee injuries and Fedor finally started slowing down and his 10 year undefeated streak was snapped when he was 33 years old.

GSP came back for one fight against Bisping while Fedor has had like 14 fights since the age of 32.

So you have to take that into account when looking at losses.

Most ppl memory of fighters like Fedor these days is of him getting smashed by Moldonado, Mitrione and Big foot 3 middle of the road guys..1 who's pretty much a chubby middle weight.

That's the memory most will have of him now. Why? Staying in too long and taking a tonne of shine off his legacy and Silva being a confirmed drug cheat has a dark cloud over his whole career.

I thought he'd take that one. but it wouldn't impact whether I think hes the most skilled ever which I think he is. The skill set is just extremely wide. It was strong in every area. Anderson Silva has no offensive guard for example.

No science is in the drug tests where Jones has failed more then anyone in MMA

Because failed drug tests are the best method of determining who's clean and who is not......
The scientists, USADA, and everyone else does not know why these picograms show up in Jones' results. The amounts found are too low to be considered performance enhancing.

GSP is great, he avenged his two losses and reigned for years as champ. He never failed a drug test, but competed mostly pre-USADA in the UFC's "steroid era". I don't think he cheated, but who knows.

Jones' has been largely untouchable in his fights, finishes most of them, and is really undefeated despite what his record states. Hate him if you want, but you can't deny the dominance.

GSP got the brakes beat off of him by Hendricks, no rematch...GSP flat out refused to fight at MW, until Bisping was champ....then GSP was suddenly too ill to defend the title.

No. People exclude Jones because he cheated when he took PEDs. He took it in an organisation that doesn't allow them. Therefore he took them to gain an illegal advantage over his opponents who obeyed the rules. No one gives a shit about fighters taking PEDs. They care about fairness. If everyone can take PEDs then cool. If no one can then cool. Fedor fits the bill. Jones doesn't.
