I'm sure Khabib may have been open to 170 with GSP if UFC would've allowed it. But since the fight was for sure not happening they stopped talking about it. Khabib wanted 165 so it's more even and not such an advantage for GSP, but he most likely would've agreed to 170. Once the fight was for sure not going to happen Khabib retired and so did GSP.100%. I get a kick out of people who act like GSP coming off a 4 year lay off, moving up and beating a guy who used to be a fighter at LHW and who took out a legit champ like Rockhold on 2 weeks notice is somehow a pussy. It's like people don't realize that wasn't a cakewalk for GSP.
On flipside Khabib was trying to get the GSP superfight he wasn't willing to come to 170lbs at all and that was for a retired almost 40 year old GSP and Khabib was in his prime.
Also I agree on your points, that was a hard fight for GSP and he almost didn't pull it off. He had to dig deep to get that win, if he would've lost they would say GSP shouldn't have ever moved up, he's too small, etc.
