I'm sure Khabib may have been open to 170 with GSP if UFC would've allowed it. But since the fight was for sure not happening they stopped talking about it. Khabib wanted 165 so it's more even and not such an advantage for GSP, but he most likely would've agreed to 170. Once the fight was for sure not going to happen Khabib retired and so did GSP.

Also I agree on your points, that was a hard fight for GSP and he almost didn't pull it off. He had to dig deep to get that win, if he would've lost they would say GSP shouldn't have ever moved up, he's too small, etc.

He's not the GOAT. Too short a career, and he retired way too soon.
Was he the greatest at one time... sure. Of all time... fuck to the no.

McGregor never moved up. He moved down to FW almost killing himself to make 145 and used IVs to do it. He is a LW. He has fought at WW against Ceronne & Nate Diaz both LWs. That's not moving up.
 
Khabib isn't the GOAT, and it has nothing to do with moving up or down. It's because he quit too early. You're just not clearing the career accomplishment bar quitting at 32. He's perhaps a GOAT would-have-been.
That said, I think Khabib is the most dominant fighter ever.
GOAT & most dominant are not the same.

The point is moving up only matters when people WANT IT TO.

Khabib might not have the resume to be an all time GOAT due to the lack of title defenses but he's without a doubt the LW GOAT so he is part of the conversation by default.

He’s a goat in his weight class but not an MMA GOAT like a dan Henderson that fought and beat the best in 3 different weight classes.
 
It's true he'd have a harder time against welterweights than LWs

But still beats welterweights except Usman, Burns, Chimaev and Colby

There is no GOAT. That is all fantasy talk. There is only best of their era,which Khabib undoubtedly was at LW. Once people bring up "GOAT" it really just becomes a thread disparaging all other legends except for the one they like the most. Thats really all it comes down to.

Come on, Gaethje and Trujillo have barely spent a second wrestling in the Octagon. Tibau nearly beat Khabib or did, and Shalorus is hardly a measuring stick. He's never beaten a great MMA wrestler, it is what it is.
