All Time GOAT poll

But we are talking about 3 fighters in 3 different weight classes.. This is NOT like asking the question

"Who was the best boxer in their primes, Frazier, Foreman or Ali"

Well they all fought in the same era, and in the same weight class. Ali was 3-1 total against them. These guys all fought in different classes.. And Silva while he fought at LHW he never would fuck with Jones..

I know we differ on stances often but you often quote boxing and I fucking respect that

It's good seeing you post man

That’s why I said “nearly all”. Silva’s UFC records:

-Longest win streak (16)
-longest title reign (2457 days)
-most title defenses finishes (8)
-most KO wins in title fights (7)
-most knockdowns in title fights (11)
-most knockdowns in UFC history (18)
-10 title defenses (should be #1 with 11)
-3 1st round LHW KOs

That's a bunch of nonsense trying to manipulate stats.. Most Knockdowns WTF? This ain't boxing WTF cares? 3 1st round LHW KO's.. There is another who gives a fuck?

This is the big one..

  1. Jon Jones: 14 UFC title wins.
  2. George St-Pierre: 13 UFC title wins. ...
  3. Demetrious Johnson: 12 UFC title fight wins. ...
  4. Anderson Silva: 11 UFC title fight wins. ...
  5. Randy Couture and Matt Hughes: 9 UFC title fight wins

Anderson Silva holds nearly all of UFC’s most prestigious records.

-Longest win streak (16)
We can stop there.. Like I said manipulating and massaging stats.. Jones has never actually lost.. We all know this. He is really 28-0.. And he and Silva have the same issues with PED's.. If it's just on resume, Jones beats everyone in the GOAT Talk..

Silva is the UFC GOAT and has numerous UFC records to back it up. Those are the facts my son.

If he actually was, you wouldn't post so much about GSP trying to prove your point.

But Silva isn't, and you spend most of your time on Sherdog talking about GSP as such.

Kinda like how people would rather cheer for GSP during an Anderson Silva fight. Which happened more than once.

I'd say so

No unbiased fan would ever consider GSP the goat by his in-cage accomplishments. Anderson and Jones far outshine him in skills and dominance.

That's why drug tests are brought up in every single goat discussion, because GSP hasn't done enough in the octagon to be awarded the goat distinction, so his biased fans turn to outside, mostly irrelevant factors
Man Anderson is my all time favorite and Jon, IMO, is clearly the greatest fighter to date but this is pure bullshit. GSP destroyed dominant fighters in their primes while barely even being challenged. Koscheck, Fitch, Hughes, Condit and Shields were all clear #1s at the time on big streaks of their own and BJ in the second fight was looking untouchable at LW and at the top of his game.

The way GSP beat these guy's and sent them into a downward spiral for the remainder of their careers I would say was doing more than enough inside the octagon to warrant his inclusion in this discussion.

Anderson has the most dynamic HL reel in the sports history but arguably the weakest strength of competition of the 3 and Jon's biggest wins where against fading versions of big name fighters, (though I don't think the end result would have been different had that not been the case).

TLDR: Saying GSP didn't "do enough inside the Octagon to be in GOAT consideration" is absurd, at least imo.

Because was in his prime vs. Serra.

Yes it was.. But age 32 or 33 is usually in the prime. I would argue GSP was slightly past it because of injures.. So if he lost, everyone would bash his legacy.. You would NOT give him a pass..

It doesn't erase it but it does weaken legacy.

A lot of people vividly recall Ali's fights when he was fighting well past the point of retirement.

Especially in a singles sport, every W and L is factored in.

GOAT is career spanning and not just prime.

Wins when past prime are impressive. Losses aren't. They're normal.

They only weaken legacies to those who don't understand fighting.

"If you ignore timing, you ignore fighting."

That's my favorite MMA phrase.

I agree prime Fedor is the greatest fighter so far, but you really like to piss off other fanbases lol.

If you have over 10 years of mileage, I won't hold any losses against you.

When GSP lost to Serra and Hughes he had less pro fights and was younger than Anderson Silva when he lost to Chonan and Takase.

I am a Massive GSP Fan, but that loss to Serra never should have happened.. You get caught I understand.. But Jesus Serra did NOT belong in the cage with GSP..

That statement helps GSP if anything.

GSP has 3 WW title wins post ACL tear. And in those fights, GSP didn't look nearly as physically capable than previous.

And then he won the MW belt after a second ACL tear on his other leg, against a fighter who beat Silva less than 2 years earlier.

Silva had no comparable injuries during his title reign that he needed to come back from. Since coming back from his leg injury, he is 1-6-1.
