I don't really understand what is going on tbh. Usually I would say that celebrities should not be favored, but also should not be held to a higher standard legally.

However, this is a case where someone clearly has tried to leverage celebrity status in the preparation of a crime. Deterrence has to be factored in, clearly.

The theory that the Obama’s were behind this is a weak one for two reasons:

1. Chiefs of staff have political careers and loyalties that extend beyond a given employer.
2. There are actually two former Obama chiefs of staff figuring into this drama and one of them (Rahm Emanuel) couldn’t be more pissed about it.

That said, the perception that wired democrats pulled strings to make this happen seems entirely believable- bordering on established fact. The only question is whether their motives were personal or conspiratorial.

The FBI has launched a probe into the reasons why prosecutors decided to drop all criminal charges against Jussie Smollett — despite evidence that he allegedly staged a hate crime against himself, a report said Wednesday.

The investigation was revealed one day after Chicago prosecutors suddenly abandoned the 16-count indictment into the “Empire” star, according to Chicago’s WLS -TV.

The station cited two law enforcement sources for the information about the federal probe.

The development came as Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx defended her decision to drop the charges.

“I believe this is a just outcome based on the circumstances,” Foxx said Wednesday.

Diversion programs aren't too uncommon, usually for first time offenders with relatively minor charges. It is absolutely not common for cases like this. Moreover, diversion programs take time to complete and are monitored through probation. They just dropped the charges. No program, no probation involved.

Dont forget they also erased everything, there's no trace of this case in court. It's a good thing CPD leaked their own files otherwise it would probably be erased as well.
