The theory that the Obama’s were behind this is a weak one for two reasons:

1. Chiefs of staff have political careers and loyalties that extend beyond a given employer.
2. There are actually two former Obama chiefs of staff figuring into this drama and one of them (Rahm Emanuel) couldn’t be more pissed about it.

That said, the perception that wired democrats pulled strings to make this happen seems entirely believable- bordering on established fact. The only question is whether their motives were personal or conspiratorial.

Two different scenarios as well considering the prosecutors said they believed Smollett was guilty and had the evidence vs. the Mueller report saying there was no/insuffient evidence. If the Mueller report said there was evidence but they just let Trump go that would be comparable.

I don’t believe they can. There’s no authority for that, so far as I know. The most you could do would be to file federal charges (or potentially civil suits) against the prosecutors for corruption, but prosecutors have massive legal immunities.

So if, for example, The POTUS were to get involved...even he couldn't do anything?
