I know. Prometheus has big problems, but I loved the film, especially once you include the cut scenes from the blu ray release. There's no official release, but a fan made an extended cut with those scenes in them. Unfortunately it's not in UHD, but it makes the film so much better. You find it as a torrent.

Ridley needed to finish his vision with the engineers, instead of panicking with Alien Covenant. That pleased no one. At least it's canon now, and can be touched on down the road. I just hope Ridley does it before he dies, I love his cinematography style, and he gets to dictate what's canon more than just about anyone. This is why Blade Runner will always be in the same universe, even if only on the QT, because Ridley said it is.
Yeah he effed up listening to the idiotic fans who wanted more xenomorphs. He should've just not given a shit what the vocal fans were bitching about, and just given us the engineer homeworld . Instead we got the idiocy of covenant. Covenant wasn't bad as a standalone movie, but a huge let down when you associate it with the series.

To me the Space Jockey is is still an elephant looking thing fused to its ship.

This thing is not a seven foot human in a suit and that's absolutely not what Ridley was thinking in 1979.

One of the worst parts was killing Dr Shaw off screen, she and David were the best characters in Prometheus. I'm still super bitter about that lol

I really don't remember much complaining about lack of xenomorphs. The complaints I heard (and shared) were primarily stupid characters, lack of coherence about how the black goo works, and the Alien franchise not really being the proper venue for a human origins story...and the demystification of the Space Jockey in close to the least interesting way possible.

I think Ridley went and tried to solve a problem most people didn't really have.

That was beyond stupid. I wasn't crazy about Shaw but aside from David she was the best that Prometheus had to offer and was better than every new character in Covenant...none of which were any good really.

I came into say this exactly. Prometheus gets shit on a lot but I will say the greatest thing to happen to Prometheus was Alien Covenant as that gave a reality check on what a completely dumpster fire Alien movie would look like(horror tropes..etc)

Just some overall minor changes to Prometheus would have made a massive difference like not having to hear about complaints for years about why scientist was fucking around with the goo snake..etc.

Even with the faults of Ridley Scott I wish I could have seen what Alien Covenant would have been without any external influence from studios, critics of Prometheus as it made Covenant a bigger cluster fuck.

I've watched all of YouTuber Kroft's Alien videos.

Yeah they should've brought Shaw back for Covenant and had her explore the Engineer homeworld.

I wish. People wouldn't shut the fuck up about the lack of xenomorphs at the time. Look at the top comment for this video. "For me, the only reason I went to see Prometheus is because of the damn fucking xenomorphs. They are literally what make his universe worth watching and not to mention there will never be an alien like that ever again".

I would constantly hear complaints like that.

Ridley Scott wasn't planning on having them in Covenant but because there was such a backlash he changed it

“What changed was the reaction to ‘Prometheus’, which was a pretty good ground zero reaction,” “It went straight up there, and we discovered from it that [the fans] were really frustrated. They wanted to see more of the original [monster] and I thought he was definitely cooked, with an orange in his mouth. So I thought: ‘Wow, OK, I’m wrong’.”

It went even further than this because I recall Ridley making a smart ass comment around the time of Covenant's release basically saying something like "well you wanted Aliens killing people....here you go"

The dumb characters were certainly the biggest complaints against Prometheus, but I recall there were also diehard fans complaining about not getting xenomorphs and this was something Ridley was aware of.

Well there were surely some complaints along those lines from some but I had been spammed xenomorphs with two AVP movies and there was certainly no novelty left to the monster. I wanted atmosphere and good characters...the things that made Alien...and Prometheus didn't deliver terribly well on either.

I am sure there were some "muh xenomorphs" complaints but I wasn't really hearing them in my circles.

I remember Ridley making the fine here's your xenomorphs you dinks kind of comments but again that seemed to me partly like not wanting to hear the other criticisms about the film...all of which he went on to repeat or do even worse in Covenant.

Prometheus - Idiots take off their helmets right away on the new planet.
Covenant - They walk out of their spaceship with no helmets at all.

No clue how this will work out on earth as the setting- doesn’t make any sense within the franchise.

I’ve heard that WY will be mentioned, but there is a rival company called “Prodigy” that focuses on different tech/science aspects. That sounds interesting, but the setting on earth, while bold, doesn’t sound like it will work without retconning certain aspects of the franchise.

I’ll still watch the hell out of this, lol

I'm not disagreeing with the novelty aspect but Ridley changed Covenant to include them because of the fan backlash with the lack of xenomorphs. Whether or not you heard about that at the time I can't answer but thats why myself and others in here are all saying the same thing. It actually made news headlines and articles...etc. -> https://www.digitaltrends.com/movies/ridley-scott-prometheus-impact-alien-covenant/

The original Alien is one of my all-time favorite films. The sequel was good but highly overrated. Everything else has been shit.

I have zero faith this will be anything other than one more notch on the belt of failed woke perversions of classics IPs.

It's weird. Franchises like Highlander screwed it up by making stuff in the present and the future instead of prequels in the past. Meanwhile Alien keeps doing prequels to a story that only begins when the Nostromo finds the derelict ship in Alien.
It seems so obvious what the next step should be. Follow a group of Colonial Marines hunting down xenomorphs across the galaxy.

Alien: Isolation did such a great job opening the universe up, they really should have just gone in that direction.

Keep the retro future tech, semiotic standard signage, sci-fi space horror, and go to fucking town.

Alien: Isolation was so goddamn good. it could have literally been an amazing movie.,

Do you predict that the series will be a youthful-relatable melodrama with shaky cam and dim lighting?
