Just because the UFC decides to call any particular title fight 'interim' or 'undisputed' does not automatically inject (or remove) legitimacy. Tom did more work at HW to win (and even defend) the interim title than Jones did to win the vacant 'undisputed'.

Jones and Gane were competing for a paper belt that Francis threw away...and Tom's was an interim belt only because the self-interested UFC refused to strip Jones. Why wasn't Tom-Pav for the undisputed, given that Jones was already 8-9 months out from his win over Gane when he got hurt, we knew he would be out a long time, and he ended up not fighting Stipe until *19 months* after winning his belt? Because the UFC is a clown show.

Getting caught up in the interim vs. undisputed labels, especially recently at HW, is just stupid given the way the UFC often treats the belts as little more than marketing tools.

Remember when Colby won an interim title and was stripped *the following month* because he would not play ball with the UFC's timeline? LOL

As far as I'm concerned, the belt was last seen November 24th 2024 when Stipe/Jones fought.
June 21st 2025 Aspinall promoted to champ.
October 25th 2025 Aspinall injured and fight a NC

I get Aspinall played a BS game to get to fight for the belt and injured in a shitty way. But the division has to move forward. He has no attachments besides interim champ and defending that belt. People hate Jones and love Aspinall because of the situation, still, fans want to see someone fight.

There's no reason Aspinall can't fight winner of Pereira/Gane for the vacant belt if we've hit February and 2 months out we don't have a fight scheduled. Pereira has more of a right to earn a 3rd weight belt than Aspinall does to keep his belt in my opinion.

If it's halfway through the year in 2026, I'm fine with Waldo vs Volkov for the damn vacant belt too. I just want to see the HW division do something.
