I didn't say it was actually luck (I picked him to win, knucklehead), but that his behavior indicates that even he, to some degree, must feel as though he pulled off something surprising.

He'd much rather ride this wave then get back in there and try to repeat the performance, really finalizing the rivalry in his favor. It's not the look of true confidence.

Considering how the UFC are already making Izzy wait until fall to fight again for the Sydney card and this also might be due to his MCL injury I'm not completely against them doing the trilogy next since by that point Pereira will be good to go because it would have been a decent amount of time since the KO loss.
Like the winner of Rob/DDP would be rightfully deserving of the next shot, however a third Pereira fight still sells a lot and is the most intriguing opponent for Izzy out of those three options we have.

I'm a huge Rob fan, but if he wins I wouldn't be against them doing Izzy/Pereira 3 next considering that would sell more compared to Izzy/Rob 3.
DDP might be a different story if he wins since he'd be a fresh challenger for Izzy and the beef between him and Izzy would help sell the PPV.

The "beef" between Du Plessis and Adesanya is downright minuscule compared to the epic history between Adesanya and Pereira.
There's really no better fight to make right now for the champ.
Peña was gonna get a rematch with Nunes, Holloway had 3 tries vs. Volk, we had 4 between Figgy and Moreno.

Izzy and his fans should be keen for a anther fight then but it seems the reverse is true despite is clearly being the biggest potential draw at MW.

Izzy faced potentially having back to back knockouts 6 months apart from each other, people were saying he shouldn't take the last fight but he did fine.
