Media Alex Pereira dwarfing Johnny Walker

Which weightclass would you like Pereira to compete in?

Pereira really does have that Easter island head lol I always thought it was a joke but damn this really puts it into perspective.

Right. And he's going to heavyweight???

I don't think he believes he'll have success so much as he knows he ain't that great at LHW and he's just trying to survive by opening up a new pool of opponents.

I wonder in what minute would Pereira KO Walker. Within 1 minute or 2.

Walker looks bigger, but I see how the angle and possible shoeless Walker could trick folks.

Let's see how many more guys are going to explain how weight cutting works and how they all do it.
Lots of new information in this thread.

Pereira is obviously a big boy.

I don't think he'd have any issues competing at 205, but he's currently making 185 on the regular, so why move up exactly?

Pereira 6'7 confirmed, we have ourselves another height cutter!

Pereira will miss weight and be stripped of the title imo

Lots of fighters have failed moving up a class too.
F. Keven Lee
Rockhold
RDA
Gustafsson
BJ Penn

just to name a few off the top of my head
to be fair, bj penn fought at burritoweight so he doesn't belong on the list. He also beat Matt Hughes for the ww title (albeit as an underestimated underdog) and arguably beat gsp in their first fight (no comment for the following two matches lol)

but yes, off the top of my head there are far less successful examples of moving up in weight after an established career at a lower weight class.

1. As skill levels increase across the board, weight becomes a huge advantage. That's why divisions are based on weight. It's one of the very best predictors of success in a fight between trained opponents.
2. Sure they both weigh in the same, but they don't weigh the same come fight night. It simply isn't true that all fights in teh UFC are between fighters of the same size.
3. It's a system that can be abused, and weight bully is a fairly apt description of those that abuse it. Some guys (and gals) manage to end up about a half weight class heavier than their average opponent.
normally I'd say if they fall within the rules then it's fair play but I also believe the entire prefight weigh-in system is flawed and in need of restructuring.

Genetics can be unfair.

Maybe a weight class system separated every 10 pounds would mitigate this issue.

I really want to see him fight someone like Whittaker.

Will be interesting whether Bobby can take him down at will.
