Starting strength, madcow, 5x5 derivates are proven efficiency programs. SOme people just love to hate Rippetoe for no good reason.
For most people valuing against proven efficiency for individuality isn’t becoming of someone aspiring to enhance their physical performance. AT least not anybody with any intelligence.
5x5 and madcow are the most successful internet programs to this day for their intended purpose and for people like meatplow and Jim to have a bad attitude towards them doesn’t change that.
It seems people like that just go against the grain to be cool or standout for whatever reason.
The fact that Starting Strength and 5x5 have such a weird culty vibe to them adds to the hate. And to be honest, you give off that culty vibe.
Starting Strength is awesome for most beginners, but even then there are a lot of newbs who can't handle 3x a week Squatting. I could, but I'm also 6 feet tall and have always been a bigger kid.
A lot of fans of Starting Strength also have this weird hatred of isolations, which turns many people off since most people are lifting to look good with their shirts off. There's no reason why curls, lateral raises, and a few other isolations can't be added to Starting Strength. Besides, if someone overtrains on one set of curls a week, then there is a bigger issue going on.
Starting Strength (and its hardcore fans) just don't vibe with most people because of differing goals. For most people, their curl is as important as their Squat. Which is fine. They're not training to improve atheltic performance, which was my goal as a high school athlete.
Also, there are plenty of people who had a good body part split, ate for size, and got numbers that Starting Strength would give you PLUS good numbers on stuff like curls. Even if you Squat once a week, it's not hard to get a 315lbs Squat after one year of training. A lot of people in my high school lacrosse team got to that pretty easily. We even had a 355lbs Squat by this skinny Indian kid.
