Because it's true, as evidenced by you saying the same thing. Why is this such a big deal to you? I pointed out something true, which you yourself are saying, yet it's making you angry. It's like your feelings are hurt. I see Cruise in your AV, but surely you don't flip out on everyone who ever says anything other than "Everything Tom Cruise does is the best because he's the best." It's fine when Tom Cruise makes Tom Cruise action movies. I love Tom Cruise action movies. It was weird that he chose to play Jack Reacher because he's small and Reacher's large. But whatever. Obviously, Tom Cruise fans ignorant of Jack Reacher liked seeing Tom Cruise in a Tom Cruise action movie, but people who were hoping that a movie called Jack Reacher about Jack Reacher wouldn't be a Tom Cruise movie. Fortunately for those people, including me, we have the show Reacher, which isn't about a small man getting beat up a lot but rather about a giant man fucking people's shit up like the actual character.

you are negatively comparing a movie to a book based on knowledge of....the book. If you are going to do that, why even watch the movie?

The reacher in the book is big, the one in the movie is smaller. Why can't both things be true?

Cruise himself after reading source material should have understood the assignment didnt exactly fit his physical makeup. He could have still been in the film in some facet, but I guess he cant be second billing to anyone.

It's not that it couldn't get off the ground - as if they had a bunch of A-list giants but only the magical star power of Tom Cruise could get it done - it's that the author of the books Lee Child got impatient while trying to find someone to fit the character, so he let Tom Cruise do it because at least his work would see the big screen, rationalizing the ridiculous size discrepancy...

Explaining the casting decision, author Lee Child said that it would be impossible to find a suitable actor to play the giant Reacher and to recreate the feel of the book onscreen, and that Cruise had the talent to make an effective Reacher. Child also said, "Reacher's size in the books is a metaphor for an unstoppable force, which Cruise portrays in his own way." Of Cruise's relatively small stature, Child said, "With another actor you might get 100% of the height but only 90% of Reacher. With Tom, you'll get 100% of Reacher with 90% of the height."

...but even he realized the error ("90% height" my ass ) and wanted to do right by his character and by his fans, which is why he started over...

In a 2018 interview, two years after the 2016 release of the sequel, Child agreed that the readers were correct in their criticism, stating: "I really enjoyed working with Cruise. He's a really, really nice guy. We had a lot of fun. But ultimately the readers are right. The size of Reacher is really, really important and it's a big component of who he is ... So what I've decided to do is – there won't be any more movies with Tom Cruise. Instead we're going to take it to Netflix or something like that. Long-form streaming television, with a completely new actor. We're rebooting and starting over and we're going to try and find the perfect guy." Eventually, Alan Ritchson was cast as Jack Reacher for the 2022 TV series on Amazon Prime Video.

Ritchton is actually pretty book accurate, so him. The TV show has been pretty enjoyable.

Jack Reacher 1 with Tom Cruise was ok. Kinda meh. Forgettable. I don't own it and don't plan to.

Jack Reacher 2 with Tom Cruise was godawful. It literally felt like a 2010s direct to DVD Steven Seagal movie that swapped Seagal for Cruise and left everything else the same. The movie was dogshit and one of Cruise's worst.

I'm glad this franchise is behind him because I wasn't enjoying it.
