A couple of questions.

1) Did Perry say this, or is it more rumor?

2) If he did say it, when was that?

That sounds like the statement of someone who has seen a tape. Details get lost in the heat of a fight, which Punk could say was the case of this is indeed what the footage shows.

@Stargazer Rex Are you gonna be in the building tonight? I'm still on a Mania high and Big Tone needs to show me something besides some shitty security cam footage!

I will not. My son's wrestling team has their yearly banquet tonight. He'll be getting the all academic award for the third year straight.

Congrats to him big dawg! That's awesome!

Thanks, Ed. He won't be winning any wrestling performance awards since he didn't make state. He's made masters which is the tournament before state the past 3 years which is a decent little achievement. But he's had a 4.0 GPA this whole year and that's hard with all the training and traveling they do for wrestling. He's gone whole weekends for tournaments during the school year, but he always gets his As. They started freestyle training this week. Back on the grind per usual!

And props to you and mama Rex for being great parents

No clue, alot of just random rumors but it's apparently stuff from people that saw footage. Hopefully they get this out there and they are done with it, such a talented roster and this is the headline they roll with.

Mariah May pulling in Anna Jay for a kiss would probably do better for them at this point lol.

Is everyone actually convinced they're showing the Punk footage then? I'm really not

I don't run a wrestling promotion but I think it'd be better to just no sell punk completely. This is a no win. I see the outcomes as:

A. They show the footage, and even if it makes phil look bad they give visibility to the guy who isn't even in any top position with the competition (punk vs drew feud is pretty distant from Cody, Roman, Sami, Damian, etc). Even if Phil looks like a pos, wwe can just adjust by not featuring Jim very prominently.

B. They show the footage and it's not a big deal they just look like whiners abd validates Phil.

C. They play it and swerve their hardcore fans then they pretty much doom themselves and alienate everyone and look worse than anything vince Russo ever dreamed of.

This just stinks of late era binnie ru wcw or Vinnie Mac 1996 post the outsiders/billionair ted.

What if they use it as a good way to promote the FTR match, bring back Jack Perry, and develop The Young Bucks' characters?

Seems like bad writing to keep relying on an embarrassing event that happened almost a year ago.
Why is that bad writing? It's not like it's something completely irrelevant that no one remembers. It gets brought up constantly whether AEW mention it or not. If you can use it to your advantage then I say that's good booking, not bad writing.

You also said "keep relying" on it but this is the first time since the incident AEW have actually done anything with it.

I think its bad writing for exactly what I said: it's an embarrassment to the company that it even happened. If I were TK I'd want people to forget about it. And you have guys going out cutting promos at "ra ra ra I love it here" because a disgruntled ex employee said bad things. And Jack Perry has made his whole gimmick about the event (and so has baby Phil to an extent).

And for the record i don't like when wwe would trot out the screw job to try and pop a rating. Long term it doesn't really have a net benefit. I personally see a some parallels here.

Edit but the main difference with the screw job is that all the bad actors did it on live ppv instead of behind the scenes. But similar in that pretty everyone involved looks bad imo

Also just curious, is it bad writing for Drew McIntyre to reference the incident all the time? That seems pretty over.

Hmmmm that's a good question. I guess I'm neutral to Drew doing it. On one hand, he's using it to make Phil look bad in their fued (which Punk does look bad imo). On the other hand I think it also applies to wwe - I don't get why you'd want to draw attention to something that happened in another company when you now employ a guy looked like a jackass.
