i feel a rift in my gym. my instructor sometimes has get togethers and stuff and he only invites a select number of people. he would have barbeques and celebrate birthday parties and what not and i would not get invited. sometimes i feel alienated and it kinda makes me not like the instructor and his clique (which of course includes some of my 'teammates') not a whole lot but to a small degree. and a lot of times a member of the clique would have get togethers and would only invite a select few also. oh yeah, my instructor is a young dude maybe 2 or 3 years older than me. i don't know this just rubs me the wrong way. and don't lie. you know you dislike those that snub you.

well anyways do you think this is an acceptable reason to leave the gym? the reason being that i don't like the exclusivity and cliques? i mean i joined bjj to get away from everything but obviously i can't get away from everything all the b.s. and stuff. the stuff i hated in high school i am seeing in my gym. in your eyes is this a good reason to leave?

Yes leave. It's obvious God, your team, instructor, and this Internet forum hate you. I think you should quit BJJ and posting. Maybe just live under a bridge or in your moms house forever and not post on public forums.

Dude, what? Why did you join the gym in the first place? If you joined it for the social aspect as much as the BJJ, then yeah sure, leave. If you joined it to learn BJJ, then who cares? I rarely/never see people from my club, but thankfully I have other friends, and I quite like keeping BJJ and everything else separate. I get on with them and they are good guys, I just don't see them outside of class. If that's the relationship you have with the people at your club, then it sounds ideal.

i joined for the bjj and the bjj only. but this shit kinda rubs me the wrong way and it feels divisive. i also found out that on certain holidays you know like martin luther king day or labor day or some shit they would get together at the gym and train but with only them.

I'd quit. I'll be damned if I'm going to take time away from my World of Warcraft development for an activity that doesn't even get me invited to BBQ outings. Fuck that noise.

I would leave, find a gym that caters to your needs. after all, it's your money.

BTW- we do all of what you described at my gym, when I was new I just inserted myself into the clique and bam, problem solved.

its a reality that cliques form and different cliques end up hating each other. and if you are from a clique people will automatically hate you because of the association to the fucking clique that they hate.

Well hes got step #1 already in progress.

Find a skill that will help you gain entry into their clique. Hell, invite them over to your place for a bbq or something, maybe they think you don't like them.

You didn't sign a contract. Pick up your balls and leave the gym if you feel uncomfortable.

Why don't you spend the weekend trying out different coleslaw recipes...once you find a good one, bring that into the gym next week and casually ask if anyone wants some of your coleslaw.

You'll definately get invited to the next BBQ, cos they'll want more coleslaw.

If you don't like coleslaw or if it's not that kind of gym...maybe try potato salad.

Make your own clique and then act cooler then the other clique. Having your own signature tee's will help (Team Cooljitsu?)

You should ask a couple of them to help you with your bench press.

Same thing happens at my gym. Except I'm an adult and realize that my coach is better friends with the people that workout with him more often, teach some of the classes if he can't make it or is sick, corner for our fighters with him, or just generally put in hard work and/or help out around the gym.

It's most likely nothing against you, I'm sure there are others in your gym that don't get invited to stuff.

I'm one of the guys at my gym that don't get invited to "bro time" outside of the gym, but I have two kids, two jobs, and my own friends. So, I don't sweat it.

man, i've been "biting my tongue" for quite some time, but i've had enough...

i'm part of this "clique" you speak of...i know who you are! i've been watching you post these stupid, trollish threads, and i'm ashamed that you air our "dirty laundry" to the sherdog world.

so, here's some more "dirty laundry" i'll add to the pile...

1. nobody likes to roll with you because you spaz out like a fish out of water. we've tried telling you that you can't possibly armbar your opponent when you're mounted...it just doesn't work like that.

2. wash your gi, and your mouth...everyday. your gi is brown and rancid like a dead fish, kind of like your game, but dead. your breath smells like rotten asparagus, try brushing teeth with crest.

3. stop talking during rolling sessions...just save it. your opponent doesn't care that your girlfriend cheats on you.

these are just a few reasons why you aren't allowed in our elite circular group of friends....fix that up and see where that gets ya.

I always thought cliques were for girls, in my gym we have separate gangs with gang signs and everything that way you know whose on you're side.

Shit gets messy when the other gang messes with our turf though.

Hahaha, this times a million. Silver D def has some issues. Some serious underlying ones.
