A log by MIDMO

A 225 by summer of next year would be a huge lift for me. I failed at 160 today on the clean. Can't convince myself to get under the bar. I believe a 185 by the end of the year may doable.

So far I have come up with the following short term goals for the end of the year

Bench 275
Dead 405
Squat 345
PC/Press 185
DB PC/Press 100
Bodyfat 12%

With a long term goal of 1100.

I think that with your size, you could go to 365 by years end in squats. Also, long-term, I think you could hit the 3/4/5 mark- 315 bench, 405 squat, and 495 deadlift, for a 1215 total. You could hit that by end of 2010, or maybe even summer 2010.

Also, are you on a training prgram that says to deadlift twice a week? If not, try it just once a week. Same with squats- again, unless your program dictates it, do it just once a week.

Was DL twice a week cause I couldn't squat to depth. However now I will be doing each once, unless my schedule has me out of the gym for 3 or more days, then its deads twice since that is where my focus is.

Even on my squat days I'm going to try to hit an assistance lift(today was SLDL)instead of an assistance for squat. Thats why I dialed back the goal for squat in the next few months.

any of this make sense

Yes it does, but I have to question DLing more than once a week. It looks like you are doing the singles at close to 85-90% of your max. If that's even close to being right, I have to think you'd make better progress once a week, esp if you are doing assistance stuff like SLDL.
One thing to look at is, with the amount of posting you do here on shift, it looks like you sit a fair bit at work, and maybe need to add some glute-activation work. I've been doing that for a few weeks and see a difference in my squat and dl. Glute squeezes for time, as hard as you can.

On the double dead lift weeks I plan on doing one of singles and the other 3 reps like I did last week. I will take what you say under consideration though. The glute squeezes will be called anti-prison rape training if they appear on my log. I think I understand the idea, I do something similar with my sholders and back. Picked it up in rehab.

APRT tired more quickly than I thought I would, I wouldn't last in prison

I had some time to consider the last couple month of my training today. About a week ago I read my whole log from the begining. I started with a goal of a combined 650lbs. I couldn't imagae that my this time I would be 250lbs over that and moving quickly on. I've even had some annoying injuries slow me down, with no squating or bench for almost 1 1/2 months of that. And I still made progress, somehow. I can't wait to see what the next couple months hold.

and thanks to everybody here for the various kinds of help they provide

what's your bw these days?

what's your bw these days?

tonight I was 211 before dinner.

I'm bouncing a little between 205 and 212 or so. I haven't really gained or lost any weight in about 6 to 8 months(from 215 if I remember) My bodyfat has dropped in that time. I need to buckle down on the diet and gain some size. I want to level out in the 220s (12%)which makes it possible for me to make 205 for JJ if I get to the point I want to compete(a requirment for my black in a couple years anyway).

I've been as low as 195 in the past year but didn't stay there for more than a week or two.

I thought the same thing

JJ Found myself working topside against one of the guys whose prepping for a fight. The first round I had a lot of trouble maintaining my postion. By the third I realized I was working too hard to keep one postion instead of transistioning to another equally dominate postion. By the fourth I was on. He has a super tuff set of sweeps but I'm begining to counter them better.

I also got in some much needed drill work 50% speed off my back. I need to do this every practice but don't.

Aug 27th
Bench
135 x 5
185 x 5
205 x 5
215 x 5 x 3
235 x 2
255 x 1

Paused
205 x 3 x 3

Dips
BW + 25lbs x 12 x 3
With
Curls
70 x 10 x 3

I set off to get my 5 x 3 at 215. I then wanted to do a heavy single or two. The 235 has suppose to be the first of a series of singles but felt good enough to do a double. Then I figured what the hell, and added 10lbs to my pre-elbow weight and pounded it for a single, there is at least 10-15lbs more I left on the bar and prob 20 if I hadn't done the set work. But I walked away happy anyway. New actual total 915.

Looked it up in my log and I had a single of 220 in early March, so 35lbs over 5 months with 2 of those not even benching aint bad. Goal for end of the year remains 275 for now. May move it to 295.

The dips were +2 reps from last week and I will stay at this weight til I hit 15 then add 10lbs.

And thanks to MM for the gifts of ample chicks and the one hot gothy 50s sorta chick who really need fangs.

Deadlift
225 x 3
275 x 3
315 x 1
325 x 1
335 x 1
350 x 1
325 x 2
315 x 1 x 2

315 x 1 x 3

Squats
225 x 5 x 3

14" rack pulls
315 x 1
365 x 1
405 x F
315 x 3
385 x f
365 x f

Changed from doing my PC on a 5' bar to the full size 8'. changed the feel a little but was ok.

The single pulls felt great with the 350 being a 5lb best. I feel like I have about 10 or so more lbs in me right now. I need to develop a new approach to my single reps though when attempting a PR. I think I waste alot getting there.

The squats were just done cause a couple freinds were using the rack and I figued why waste the time and I worked in with them.

The rack pulls showed my energy level by that point, as I was shot.

My gym is closed for next week for maintance so I guess complete deload is in order. Maybe pushups, cleans and presses at home. New total 920

In postive JJ news, my monday trip to the mother school is back on. The conflict I thought I had resolved itself. Be intresting to see where I am inside my own assocation and get really beat on my some high level Judokas as well. Not sure if I can do 4 hours on the mat for both sessions but damn it I'm going to try.

an oldtimer like you needs to be careful of his hips when doing 4 hours of judo
