Sounds like a great session. How long have you been training BJJ?

Its been about 6 years, For the first 3 years it was 4 days a week and at least an hour private a week, now saddly I'm done to once maybe twice a week.

Thanks to Magicman for the gift of ass.

Gi JuJitsu

Several memebers of the class had a Judo tourny over the weekend so the primary focus on problems they encountered. One issue someone had was getting stuck in 69 giving up the pin. Well since I get stuck a whole lot in north south this was right up my alley. It seems in Judo people have issues escaping from pins, which after a given time result in a win for the guy on top. This is odd to me as I rarely get caught for very long at all in one postion. But never the less, they worked on an escape where you reach through and then invert freeing your shoulders, done properly and if the other guy doesn't defend you in up in "dogfight" or better.

I greatly perfer to reach back under grab a leg and roll while still under them into a bottom sprawl then dig the single or sit out. In therory I expose my back and arm. but the risk is worth it to me.

We also reviewed some throw stuff against people being overly defensive.

Then there were armbars lots and lots of armbars. My coach loves the straight armbar and hits some varitions I don't have in my book yet. Last night was pretty basic stuff from the bottom but since I was using the gi it made it intrested, I particalurlly like a set up off a collar grip.

Randori was a good time for me. Love rolling in the gi. Since I'm use to trying to keep pace with competive MMA athletes the slower pace of gi allows me alot of options. I'm not sure I did anything worthy of mentioning here, was looking for armbars almost exculesively. ANd thats what I found. With a couple of Zs thrown in there for good measure.

It was so nice to roll two days in a row. I feel so much better that second night. Its like the first night preps me for night two. I wish I could do it more.

Deficit Deadlift 4" platform
135 x 5 x 2
185 x 5 x 2
225 x 5 x 2
245 x 3
275 x 3 x 5

225 x 10

SLDL Deficit 4"
225 x 5 x 3

The first couple set of 275 actually felt light, but my set 4 and 5 my tongue was hanging out by rep three. So I dropped the weight on the assistance SLDL 20lbs from last session. I skipped bench and bench assistance today to try and give my elbow a break, it flared up in the first couple sets of 275. 2 sessions of ice and some ibuprofen and its OK. It looks like a doc trip for me.

In other news, my deficit deadlift july may have to end early. The platform I'm using felt soft during my sets, I flipped it over and its starting to fold in the middle. THere are two white fold marks in the supports that are amazingly about the same distance apart as my feet in my deadlift setup. I think I'll get a 2 x 12 and make a new platform for them some time this week. Just a 24" peice with 4 supports across the bottom, shouldn't take 20minutes unless I router the edges and stuff. Put some grip tape on top and there you go 3" platform for $10. Total weight on the platform today was 485lb with me and the weight.

lol did you read the filename for that photo? the guy uploading it was probably rubbing one out at the same time

Deadlift deficit 4”
135 x 5 x 2
185 x 5 x 2
225 x 5 x 2
245 x 3
275 x 1
295 x 1 x 5
305 x 1
275 x 5

When I got to the gym my lower back felt weak through my warm ups. Never really felt good. I maybe could have doubled the singles at 295 and I think I left a rep or two on the set of 275 but it was a good short workout. One more Deficit dead session hopefully to end the month.

Suggestions on next month anyone?

Suggestions on next month anyone?

If you have access to bands, I'd do some deadlifts for a month or so with bands or chains to add weight at the top. You've worked the bottom of the lift, now work lockout.

Unilateral DB cleans and Press Sounds intresting? I've never done anything like that before

The band situation is unknown. I'll have to look into it.

Today

SOHP(warm up)
95 x 5 x 2

Push Press
115 x 5 x 2
125 x 5 x 3

Hang Clean
105 x 3 x 2
115 x 3 x 3
125 x 3 x 3

Hang Pull
105 x 3 x 5

Dips
BW x 15 x 5

Shrugs
275 x 5 x 3

Curls 21s
50lbs

A little shotgun like for today, I wanted to get something in but didn't want to irratate my elbow.(thus the light weights) It felt good to do cleans again as I've been neglecting them this month. Right now I'm not going back to squat 8-1 but going to give it a few more weeks, instead I'm going to put in cleans and keep with the deficit deads(maybe one or two singles from the ground to see where I am)

On the push side its looking like SOHP/pushpress(elbow tolerates it OK) with weighted dips exchanged for BW dips. Assistance will still include Shrugs/SLDL and maybe rack pulls or banded deads if I can figure out a set up to use at the gym.

Thanks Fenn

I think I like this one month per assistance thing I'm trying. I did have a feeling of complete gaydom in the gym today.

A freind was working singles on the bench. He's a competive bencher and he asked me to spot him which I take as a compliment of some sorts. But for the sake of saftey I called another guy over when the bar hit 400. I knew if he had a complete failure there was no way I could get that bar off him. I know it was the right thing to do but I felt weak since I knew 400 was out of my safe deadlift range, He rocked through his sets on what he calls a light day (445 singles light?)

I wish the benches at the gym had foot postions for the spotter but if I had to dead the weight off him I was going to be doing it off of a 3" square tube, not exactly ideal.

I am envious of all people who can dead over 4 plates.

pic may be large but...it's been awhile since i've graced this awesome log. And there was a little bench press complaining.
