The dips have come quickly, I'll be adding a few more reps to them then when I can do 20 x 5 I'll go back to 10 with weight. I have no reason for this other than it sounds good. The arms are swolt up like a happy tick on a blood hound's ear.

Foz

I will happily trade bench press pounds for deadlift pounds.

In other news my friend who spotted me today has a used Inzer Lever that he may be getting rid of(he "outgrew" it) I put dibs on it.

I just felt strong today for some reason, I almost wish I had ditched the rep work and tried 260 or so. For some reason I think today I could have hit it. I would like to credit the dips for my recent progress on BP, I have no evidence other than I started doing dip then my BP got better.

I am disappointed in my failure during my last set of curls as we all know and I have said many times curls are the lift that seperates the men from the boys

May 28th

Bench
135 x 5
185 x 5
205 x 5 x 2
dropped back to
195 x 5 x 3

I was just thinking about how far my bench had come in the last several months and I went back and found this entry for May 28th, which is my first bench workout logged here. Then I looked at my work the other day and was happy. I'm actually in striking distance of my 275 x 1 goal, which I honestly thought I would never acheive.

Based on a one rep calculator and a single set of 230 x 5 I should be able to bench 260. I have no doubt I can do 230 x 5 for a single set. Its just amazing to me to see how much progress I have been able to make recently.

Although I'm hampered a hair on my squat progress, I think the deficit deads will provide me a major boost next month when I go back to regular deads. My deadlift goal of 405 may still a while to acheive but I'm begining to have faith I will.

I want a 1000 combined and actually believe its possible.

So I just want to take a minute and thank you guys for pushing me.

Thats what I'm saying

When I started the question was if I could reach 1000

now I feel like the only question is when will I reach 1000

If you would have asked me six months ago what my weakest lift was I would have said bench,

I think its cause I lift with guys who only bench alot, theres a 185 guy who does reps in the mid400s. compaired to them I feel small and weak.

But now I know that Deads are my weak link right now. But time will heal that.

JJ sorta of

I was suppose to met one of the local kids at the gym tonight for some stand up work but he didn't show on time. I got there plenty early and rolled through about 5 rounds of shadow boxing and felt great, once he didn't show I tried to shift gears and get some mat work in with the rest of the people there.

I started slow, and I mean like molasses. After a few rounds I was feeling frustrated at myself. I decided that I really wanted to force myself to work my straight arm bar set ups. This may not have been the best idea based on my mood but I solidered on.

I was able to roll through my set ups and force people into them but my finish was off. I need to concentrate of popping the sub for the tap not just getting the arm straight and pausing hoping for a tap. This is a reoccuring problem for me. These guys just don't tap early the fight to the last minute(why can't I get that in my stupid head)

The one real issue I was having tonight was I getting trapped in the bottom sprawl postion alot, and wasn't finding my way out like I normally do. I was re-shooting a single to turn my op but wasn't getting it done like I should. I have noticed however that I am able to lift their hips up better recenlty by good mourning them from my knees. I was able to turn a few and get back to top. I need to get with their wrestling coach and work out my options.

I did hit a couple of greco style tilts that I normally don't tonight though so that was a big postive for me.

I ready to head to the home school next week and get some gi work in. Life would be alot simplier in my JJ world if I lived somewhere else.

The Kid I was suppose to work with did show, but blended in with the group while I was rolling. He is suppose to call me tommorrow if he can work out. He got caught at work and was running late which is not normal for him at all.

I also think I need to find some sort of one person drills I can work into my schedule to increase my hip speed off the mats back to top side so I can better counter their superior wrestling and drive. Suggestions(no mat at home)

I did deficit deads today. It was hard not to round my back. My glutes are killing me

They will hurt you for a couple more days, then it gets better, then you do deficits again

Bench
135 x 10
185 x 5 x 7 left elbow still ouchy may have to go to doc

SOHP
95 x 5 x 7

Shrugs
315 x 5 x 3

The elbow has been problematic for a couple of months, orginally thought I popped a bursa and didn't worry too much about it. Today it almost stopped me dead in my tracks. 3 rounds of ice and 800 mg of ibuprofen and its under control. I'm leaning towards I inflamed it on deads yesterday and with bench right after it was too much. Will decide on Doc monday. May adjust schedule for rest day between deads and bench. I seem to be falling apart.

Thank You

I went into the gym today just trying to fit some volume work inbetween my normal schedule. But as I pulled the first couple sets of 245 I noticed I felt like I was being pulled forward still. They felt incrediablely heavy. I decided to tinker with my starting postion some and moved the bar from over my toes to over my instep(*). The bar felt like it weighed 40lbs less from this positon.

So I went ahead and moved the weights up a hair and worked in some extra sets but dropped my assistance. When I got home I looked at my log and realized just a week or so ago I did 265 as singles and almost puked after. About that same time I did a set of 225 for 10 and saw spots. The 265 today wasn't exactly easy but didn't really zap me, the 245 for 10 was simple. Either my body has over the past several days adjusted to the deficit or the simple changes I made to my form are going to pay off when/if I go back to standard deads. I'm just hoping that it wasn't one of those "on" days and I fight to get back to. All in all one of the easiest deadlift days I've ever had.

Another change I made in most sets were instead of touch and go on the bottom I reset quickly to my starting position and pulled. I would say less than a second or second and a half on the ground just long enough to pull the bar over my feet and get my hips to their starting spot.(still the higher set up I've been playing with)

So you were resetting too? Hm. I can't really figure this out myself. Is it better to do touch and go, or to stop, reset, and lift again?

Well it was a sort of reset. I would put the weight down, pull towards my body over my instep and then lift my hips to where I'm starting from now, then pull. I did some touch and go sets at 245 and 255 as well. But the 10 reps and the 265 were "reset" as were most of the others.

I guess I didn't answer your question earlier Prok,

For me the reset is where I'm headed, since most of my deadlift problem right now is breaking the weight from the ground. So by resetting I force myself to perform that break everytime I pull a rep even though iron plates don't have much bounce. The TNG reps I'm hitting as fast as I can through the whole movement, the reset reps I tend to pause at lock out.

In a side note

In recent history I have not done dips without bench, The dips/curls combo today had me gunz swolt up. I had to fight the urge to pull a double bicep pose in the mirror on the way out the door. The only thing that saved me was my T-shirt had sleeves(I know a t-shirt with sleeves is a cardinal sin while doing curls). There for the entire gunz were not visible to me and that reduced the urge enough to be controllable
