5'11, 135 pounds. How much should I weigh?

my trainer told me i had 1% body fat, but now I'm doubting that since i'm sure you guys are more right. I'll definitely check again soon.
And will the food I'm eating now make me suffer later? or will i just have to get my eating habits right when i'm older?

Get the hell away from that "trainer" and don't ever go back.

If someone told you that you have 1% bodyfat, you can rest assured he doesn't know what he's talking about. 1% bodyfat would kill you, plain and simple. No Kenyan marathoner, no Olympic swimmer, no starving prisoner of war, no human can attain a bodyfat of 1% and live; it's unheard of.

Seriously, I would shy away from that crackpot trainer, and find a place (like sherdog) to get some quality advice. Here, you have a handful of folks who have their heads screwed on tightly in regards to Strength and Power. Take advantage of that.

And regarding your diet question:

I'm sure you can get a more thorough answer in the Diet and Supplements Forum, but here's my take on it. Fast foods do nothing for you besides help gum up your system with toxins and give your body ineffecient fuel. You don't need that shit, but you don't have to embark on some question to find organic, enzymatic, anabolic, cruelty-free foods of dietary perfection, either. Just avoid foods that teem with empty calories (refined sugars, salts, saturated fats, etc.). Your standard fast food burger and fries practically ooze that stuff. If you cut that junk out of your diet, you'll feel your energy levels soar. You'll be able to train harder and recover faster, and you'll probably feel like you've been poisoned if you ever go back and gorge yourself on fast food again.

If you have to eat on the run at a restuarant, you can always hit up Subway or some place like that. I personally ate a great deal of 12 inch Chicken Bacons on honey wheat back when I had to get lunch from a restuarant.

Oh yeah and cut out the carbonated beverages, That shit is bad news.

Think of this, would you rather eat fast food (during a 6 hour period), or not eat for 6 hours straight, while working manual labor?

I like subway, thats an hour and a half of me working just to eat a nice sub lol. Fuckin' minimum wage.

Even the famous legendary Bruce Lee didn't have 1% bodyfat !!

Considering being under 5% for prolonged periods is dangerous and under 3 for more then a few days can be lethal I dont think your 1%, maybe he meant 1% higher then you should be, or maybe he meant 10% but there is no fucken way anyone would say your 1% bodyfat, even the most retarded trainer in the world wouldn't say that.

DUDE YOU ARE DANGEROUSLY OVERWEIGHT!

hehe jk.

but for real. I wouldn't rely upon fastfood as a method of gaining healthy weight. Afterall; this should be your intention. I would merely increase the amount of healthy food that you eat. (lean meats, green vegetables, wheat) Implement this into a healthy lifestyle in addition to lifting weights, will allow you to gain a considerable musculature.

Ps: pump iron, girly man

Thank you for the great advice, I will definitely take it and stop or cut down on fast food. Subway is good, but that crap is expensive as hell. I got a Carne Asada just the sandwich, and costed me 7 bucks. Damn...

Yeah, dude, it does cost a bunch. Fortunately, I knew the manager at my Subway, and he hooked me up constantly. If money is an issue, you can hit up your local grocery store and start packing your own lunch. It's much less expensive to buy sandwhich stuff (like whole grain breads, lunch meat, spinach, etc.) individually than it is to buy them from a store.

The other good thing about a place like Subway is that they have all their nutritional information available to customers. You should check it out.

What's with the "How much should I weigh?" threads?

I usually look at the best fighters in each weight class when trying to determine how much I should weigh. For example:
around 5'6" (LW) - 155
around 5'9" (WW) - 170
around 6'0" (MW) - 185
around 6'2" (LHW) - 205
etc etc...
I'm in the LW category (height-wise but not weight).

I was 6ft and 138 in high school, now I'm 173...A year ago I was 186 and felt and looked fat. Sometimes your body frame won't allow you to put on as much weight. The best thing to do is spread your meals out (healthy) and lift consistently.

To Urban or anyone with experience: I'm currently 17 years old, 5'11. training in boxing, and about to start wrestling. I'm very strong for my age and weight, in the weight room. I look like I'm around 150+ pounds, but I only weigh 135 right now. I have 1% body fat. How much should I be weighing right now? I'm eating fast food everyday, but they don't get me fat. When will my body mature and gain weight naturally? I'm thinking about gaining 20 pounds or so to get over my plateau for weight lifting, and also get more knockout power. Any suggestions? thanks in advanced.

Alright.. I really didn't read the replies, so sorry if this has been said...I'm a sports medicine major, so this thread title was like a neon sign to me. So you're 5'11", 135? Ok, so you're from 1 to 2 percent bodyfat? No way man! I thought guys always lied about weighing more and chicks always weigh less?! Ok, so there's this sac of fat around your heart that acts as an insulator. Imagine the power cord your Playstation, and the plastic surrounding the actual wires acts as an insulator. When you start to drop below 5 percent bodyfat and say you skip a meal everyday, and go for a nice long run, your body will start to use the fat around your heart as an energy source. Compare this to a mouse chewing away at the insulation of the Playstation power cord. You're left with bare wire. What happens when you get bare wire? Shorts. Your heart works similarly. Take away too much insulation..bam! Heart attacks.

Yeah, that's basically about it. is he a certified Athletic Trainer (ATC)? If you ask him if he's NATABOC (National Athletic Trainers Association Board Certified) and he gives you a dumbfounded look, then you need to go to your coach, or athletic director (I'm guessing you're in high school, and it's not your fault. Alot of school districts can't afford to hire a certified athletic trainer.) and say "Hey, we have this "Trainer" that's giving me bullshit advice and he may get me or someone else hurt, so you may need to reevaluate getting an ATC. 1% percent bodyfat is plain unheard of. Even Lance Armstrong isn't this lean. This is coming from an Athletic Training student in COLLEGE. Don't be afraid to stand up for yourself. If your Athletic Director or principal doesn't care for his athletes. let alone his salary, then speak up! I know it sounds shitty, but money talks, kid.
