He deserves just as much props for taking this. Someone he beat unanimously from a division below.

Volk had hand surgery recently, assumingly hasnt bulked up like last time, 11 days notice. Lets be quite honest.... Islam will not get credit from most people if he beats Volk specially if its another competitive decision.

If he loses then he loses everything. He has much more to lose with little if anything to gain besides pay check and official title defense (against someone he already defended against). People will just say "oh wow another defense against an injured FW on short notice"

Volk is playing with house money.... Again. This time he doesnt have the long ass win streak behind him and we already saw him lose.

Islam is brave for accepting a short notice fight against someone coming off surgery that also wasn't in camp?

Sounds like a good way to shut the book on Volk, particularly if Dana already had Gamrot locked in.
Volk already confirmed before the surgery that he would be ready by oct even after the surgery, now the training camp is indeed a disadvantage

He's going to fight a guy who had arm surgery ten weeks ago, coming up a weight class, is out of camp and taking a fight on ten days notice. Anyone who beats Volkanovski deserves credit, but under these circumstances, not so much. It's a shame this is how we're getting this rematch.

I mean he deserves props cos he wont get any credit for beating the guy,but he doesnt deserve AS MUCH props as short notice FW Volk. It would be expected of him to take this fight under these conditions.

It would be expected for the fighter from a division below who already lost to him to take a chance here too. UFC wouldnt even let guys like Aldo fight for the LW title without relinquishing FW title. Volk gets 2 shots even with a loss. Anyone would take this fight in Volks situation too. He has nothing to lose hes already lost to him on a full camp in his hometown. Its not guaranteed he has another shot to fight for the LW belt because he wouldve had to at least beat a top LW.

Volk is about to have 2 UFC LW title shots without having beaten a single UFC LW....

He might not care what the fans think.
There’s a good chance that he’s only fighting because he enjoys it and the perks that come with winning world title fights.

Whatever, hespect must be put on Volk's name for this though (and I'm sure he's getting remunerated accordingly which he deserves)

I bet if Islam KOs Volk, he is still be lower on P4P because it was “short notice”. People already baking the cake with this ingredient. 1st fight it was: “ Alex got robbed”, “Islam was bigger fighter”. Fact is people will never give Islam his credit.

What was there to gain fighting Oliveira again? Seems like more to gain fighting another champion whom some feel like he lost to before.

This thought had crossed my mind too, I mean it wasn't close when it hit the ground in the first one from memory, Islam seemed to have him covered quite easily.

To be honest, there isn't much to gain (other than money) being the heavy guy fighting the lighter guy.

It's Suredawg, no one ever really gets the credit they deserve. TS spends half his time dumping on fighters the second they lose yet Islam isn't going to get enough credit for taking on Volkanovski in this situation? Please.

Respect to both guys for taking the fight. But I'd say this is actually Islam's best shot at beating Volk and closing the book on him.

By the end of their first fight, it seemed like Volk had figured Islam out. He realized that he could actually win the clinch battle, survive from the bottom, and inflict damage from the top. He also had a significant cardio advantage. With a full camp, I'd have Volk as the favorite. But with no training camp and coming off surgery, I think Islam is in the driver's seat.

I'd much rather Gamrot got the fight rather than Volk.

I think if Islam doesn't get a dominant victory or finish, he will lose a lot of stock
A lot of people discredited his previous victory over Volk in his hometown, because he was much bigger and expected to steamroll the smaller guy
