It wasn't that bad it wasn't that great either imo seeing Dallas make it to the finals was awesome though
Bunch of things went kind of wrong:
1) East got decimated with injuries at the wrong time. Heat with Butler, Knicks with a bunch of folks, Pacers with Tyrese etc. Embiid came back late in season but wasn't the same and played disgracefully. Edit: Forgot about the Bucks also being fucked over with injuries.
2) The aging legends and big West Coast teams were a non-factor -- Lebron, Curry, Durant all grab big headlines but either missed the playoffs or were gone early
3) Inconsistent officiating in general - including referees putting the whistles away in 2 or 3 games of the Denver/Minnesota series so that it was officiated unlike any other series or games during regular season helped ruin the West
4) Emerging / young league stars not there yet to replace the aging ones - Edwards so hyped but totally fizzled in the WCF, Oklahoma being Oklahoma and with SGA and Chet etc don't have gravitas to be part of big narratives and plot lines, Wemby of course still needs to grow, Luka just had no support in the finals.
5) Continued overall degradation in how the sport is covered in the media just makes it overall less interesting.
Edit: 6) ECF, WCF, and Finals all boring because so lopsided series.
