That 6-10 spot oh lord

The West is ridiculous. A gauntlet of pain. In the East the Bucks are the #2 seed at 47-31. There are 5 teams in the West with better records than that. In fact, if the Mavs were in the East it would be no question Luka was winning the MVP because they would be the #2 seed. The West is so stacked, even teams like the Rockets who are 11th seed, would give any number of East playoff teams all they could handle.

I peeped the stats this year and they aren't as other worldly as last year. From 70% TS down to 64.5% (Only 1.5% better than HolmGOAT's rookie season).

34/9/10 on 61.7% TS

v.s.

26/12.5/9 on 64.5% TS

Team success wise Nuggets are 6 games up, Dallas has a rookie C and trade deadline moves, they don't have years of playing in a system together. I could see an argument for either. If Jokic didn't have one "owed" to him because of last year it would feel closer to most fans.

That and 'fatigue" would benefit anyone more this year had Jokic won last year which of course he should have.

The advanced stats have lit up for Jokic like a Christmas card this year the exact same except for not leading the league in TS% at the preposterous level it did last year (Murray missing games generally alters the shot taking calculus among other things).

Given so fee games missed, Jokic's VORP is lkely gonna eclipse the 10 game mark, which is a top 10 season of all time in that regard. Only guys named Jordan or Lebron on in one case Robinson have ever hit that. And that's a guy who 1) gets a shit whistle, and 2) is completely happy to bottle it up against crap teams in order to help train his teammates.

I've been saying it for years, the league is gonna have this problem for a long time. He elevates teammates like nobody else given his court generalship and decision making, and he has no other teammates good enough to steal the spotlight of the teams success in the regular season, and he rarely gets injured enough to miss games. It's gonna take the kind of efficiency and monster production and team success Embiid was showing this year before his injury to win MVP on merit. This year it's another slam dunk for fat serb.

I don't agree, but that's fine. You throw around "merit" while ignoring the fact Luka's 34/9/10 has never been done in NBA history. Or the fact that Luka's points+assists+rebounds is 2nd all time only to Kareem's 1972 campaign where he averaged 56 per game, Luka this season is 53.1. Not in our lifetime have we seen a player with that kind of output. Or the fact Luka also set the consecutive 30 point triple double record this season with 6.

And while media loves to throw around the fact Shai has the most 30 point games, what they don't tell you is Luka has the most 35 point games, the most 40 point games, and the most 50+ point games this season. He also has the most 30 point triple doubles this season and the most 40 point triple doubles this season. BTW, Luka is also the most double teamed player in the league while doing this stuff. His gravity as a player exceeds even Jokic.

I'm not going to take away anything from Luka because he's right up there. And I'm not gonna disagree that Doncic doesn't get a fair shake from a lot of clown pundits. But this year is no different than last year in terms of Jokic by far having the numbers to win MVP. It's late enough in the season that with high probability nothing is going to materially change the modelled numbers.

Only difference is Embiid is not number two, Luka is, but the margins are pretty much the same. I didn't want to take anything away from Embiid last year, he too had a lot of folks that pointed to certain metrics as being more important, but when you have that mix of games played, team record, ws, ws/48, PER, etc the general question isn't if you are gonna win MVP, but by how much. Embiid winning last year bucked trends of what the stats show considerably, as would Luka winning this year. Obvious last year there was all sorts of bizarre and patently false narratives being thrown around about racial bias, stat padding, not playing well in the playoffs that were all just completely false,l and thankfully gone away, but it is what it is. Embiid was a worthy number 2, as is Luka this year. They are phenomenal.

I would say though being the most double teamed player is a bit of a red herring because it is basically the strategy folks think you shouldn't do against Jokic because his decision making and playmaking results in a more efficient Denver offense when teams double him. It actually leads to the most efficient offense in the league when Jokic is on the court. Hence, the thought that drove Spoelstra nuts about just make him a scorer, because of the poison, a lot felt double teaming Jokic was the biggest poison to pick, and it just might be. So I wouldn't point to folks double teaming Jokic less as being indicative of gravity. Then the intangibles of just being a big body that helps so much in terms of setting picks and so fourth really don't show up unless you really dig in are a stat nerd.

It probably doesn't matter, I think the voters already made their decision a long time ago and Jokic is going to get another MVP. Thing is, its probably better for the NBA for someone like Luka to get it, just my opinion. This will end up being like one of those Kobe years, or LeBald, or Jordan, where people look back and say, yea, that guy should have won it.

If Dallas crushes it in the playoffs I think that it's possible that could become a sentiment, but at the same time, it's also theoretically irrelevant for a reg season award, but it matters in the court of general public opinion for whatever reason.

For sure, the league would love for another talking point to promote a charismatic star and it's better for the sport. They don't want another Jokic MVP and they surely don't want a Denver dynasty. I think Jokic had a 98% chance of winning this year implied by Vegas odds. Next year i would definitely take the field (Luka and Embiid will be front runners if gamblers are smart IMO).

I'm in Beijing now, and China's the only place willing to give Jokic a signature shoe lol which tells you something for the level of success in the league he's had. I also don't see any Lebron posters much to my disappointment, but I might not be able to watch another game this year, also much to my disappointment.

Damn. They don't have TV over there?

LOL, oddly I dont have hotel internet working at the moment, and neither does my tv work. I doubt they show much basketball, and worse, the time zone difference makes games at times when I have other obligations. Sucks.
Damn. That's like the time Paulie went to Russia with Rocky and couldn't watch the Rose Bowl

China loving Jockitch is enough for me to not want him to win the MVP.

Luka with an easy 39/12/10 tonight while acting like the goofball he is.

Vaginnas out with sand in his clit and so far Mazulla showing how shiitty of a coach he is against Doc of all people
