Report: Biden Advisers Consider Stacey Abrams as Running Mate

Advisers for former Vice President Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign-in-waiting are debating whether to name failed gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams as his running mate, a Thursday report says.

According to Axios, Biden aides believe adding Abrams to the ticket would send a strong signal to voters that he’s not “just another old white guy.” The outlet said Team Biden isn’t going all-in on picking the rising progressive star just yet, worrying that the move could be received as a “gimmick” and open the former Vice President up to a new line of attacks.

It’s kinda bad if this was intentionally leaked. How often do you here VP talks for campaigns before a primary even starts? Cruz did it late in 2016 but he knew he was about to lose. Biden shouldn’t be having to do that if he really thinks he’s the front runner.

Also, I don’t get that choice but a high experienced candidate seems to get away with a VP with less experience. I still think Castro, Beto, and Gabbard are only running to be considered for VP.

O'Rourke is running to win. He will fail if Sanders stays in, but his self-belief is going to carry him far.

Out of the three, he obviously has more of a chance. If he loses, he easily can be seen as a tempting choice for a VP considering whoever wins.

"If enough citizens complain about a particular source of information and news is demonstrably and deliberately false, there should be penalties." That's the twist Orwell didn't account for. You don't just give them two minutes' hate, you let them vote on fake news right after. How clever.

Imagine for a second this "news czar" being employed by the current president, Ministry of Truth style. We'd be screaming for impeachment. It's not just afoul of the constitution, it's anti-constitutional to the core.

This is the problem, really. Free speech shouldn't and doesn't really mean the right to lie, but as a practical matter, we have to let lies that don't cause material harm go.

I agree with all of that, but I disagree with you that he's running to be VP.

Is this the "Tulsi Gabbard is a Russian agent" conspiracy theory or the "Wikileaks is a Russian front group" conspiracy theory? I'm having trouble keeping up...

Wikileaks factually is an arm of Russian propaganda. No evidence that Gabbard is a Russian agent, but it's no secret that she's the Kremlin's favorite Democrat.

I agree with all of that, but I disagree with you that he's running to be VP.

I would say he is probably running for the top spot while also knowing a plan b or insurance policy is a possibly VP spot. Do you think Gabbard and Castro are doing it for just VP?

I go further but I agree with that, too. The government must not put itself in the position of controlling, disseminating, and mandating a state version of the truth, and this proposal allows that, no matter its good intentions (and throwing in a popular outrage trigger for federal investigations is absurd).

I think he would be a terrible VP pick. A normal VP pick is someone boring but qualified. Won't offend anyone and can give voters confidence that whatever happens to the P, we've got someone experienced and steady to take over. For recent examples, see: Timothy Kaine, Michael Pence, Joseph Lieberman, Joseph Biden.

O'Rourke is the opposite. He's unqualified and exciting. Picking him could further divide the Democrats at the end of a grueling primary and also give independent voters in the general a reason to steer clear of the Democratic nominee.

Do you think Gabbard and Castro are doing it for just VP?

I don't understand Castro. First impression is he's the type of guy to run for prez because it would make his momma proud. Weak.

I think Gabbard believes most of the other candidates are "corporate Democrats" who aren't actually interested in working for the poor/working class and who would be happy to jump into more regime-change wars if their donors support them. Gabbard is tied tightly to Jimmy Dore, whose show I have listened to quite a bit. I think she would be polling much better if Sanders were not in the race. I think she's running as a backup plan for Sanders. I can't really see how her policy positions differ from Sanders. I think she must know other Democrats are very unlikely to choose her as VP, so the answer to your question is 'no'.

Bernie Sanders’s reparations comments cause rift over DSA endorsement

Sen. Bernie Sanders’s refusal to give a full-throated endorsement of reparations is throwing a wrench into his long-expected endorsement from the Democratic Socialists of America.

The DSA’s AfroSocialist and Socialists of Color Caucus, a section within the organization focused on race and people of color, is asking the DSA’s national political committee to withhold its endorsement of Sanders’s presidential campaign over his stance on reparations. The independent Vermont senator has declined to back reparations for the descendants of slaves in the United States, arguing that broader anti-poverty programs will help address inequality and that it’s not clear what the term means.

DSA’s members already voted 76 percent to 24 percent to endorse Sanders in a poll conducted by the organization’s leadership earlier this month. The 16-member national political committee is set to vote on the endorsement on Thursday evening. The AfroSocialist and Socialists of Color Caucus is pushing for them to withhold that endorsement.

not sure if this is common knowledge around here or not, but I just watched a fox clip where they said beto wants to not only cease funding for a physical southern border, but he would actually spend funding to tear down the currently existing 600+ miles of border fence.

I thought that has to be bullshit so i googled it and sure enough a video pops up of beto saying if he is president, the currently standing border fences will be torn down because they cause illegals to have to travel in perilous conditions that can potentially cost them their lives so the barrier must come down.

I mean wow, just wow. Even the left leaning people I know who vote blue irregardless and hate trump dont think open borders is the way to go. If Im beto's opposition at any point in the campaign, left or right, im using his stance on an open border against him.

Its involvement in driving accidents and domestic violence is substantial. Not to mention the deleterious health effects on the user.

Are these afro socialists russian troll people trying to tank another election ? That whole article is a joke and I cant believe it was posted on a mainstream news site.

Perhaps the afro socialists would prefer a president trump

Can someone please explain to me how reparations became a mainstream political issue for this election and how in the hell that is going to help the democrats reclaim the rust belt or any red states and isnt a total gift to the republican party to call people socialists say democrats want to give your money to welfare queens and be able to dog whistle for the next 2 generations of racist type voters ?

the reparation argument and stance is more about winning the primary than beating trump. Theres a deep pool of dem candidates so its hands out season from the left voters

Maybe its the conspiracy theorist in me, but I saw this seemingly out of nowhere reintroduction of the reparations idea as a way to attack Sanders from the get.

I mean, there are current candidates who haven’t supported it but I mostly see articles about who did or how Bernie didn’t. I’m wondering what Biden says or if he hopes to try to get past this news cycle and avoid it for the most part.

I don’t understand why Abrams’ would even be in the picture. What’s appealing about her exactly? That’s almost like a Palin type choice.

Stacey Abrams? May as well gift wrap the presidency for Trump right now.
