Pretty much, they had the entire buffet right stereotypes, and Donald just stood out more than anyone, he get's huge press, and even if realistically he only got like 10% of the eligible primary voters, that was enough to win him the nomination, especially since many GOP states are winner take all in the primary. By the time it got down to 3-4 candidates, the rules had been set, go crazy or go home.
I'm not gonna pretend to be anything but ignorant regarding RNC primary, but if the GOP could have just trimmed their field to say Rubio, Jeb, Kasich and Trump maybe all the Carson/Fiorina/Cruz votes could have gone to one of the other guys and easily beaten Trump?
