Cartier Martin to the Pistons. Bit of a no-name but he's a solid 3pt shooter. Seems clear that with him and Meeks SVG is looking to develop a pretty quality inside-outside game. Makes me think they might let Gerg Monroe walk so that they can put Josh Smith at the 4 and further stretch the floor with Drummond inside.

We had Cartier Martin last year. He's a can.

They are trying to trade J. SVG really likes Monroe but I think he ends up in Canlanta

Good luck trading josh. That contract sucks

My favorite 20 point Can scorer has to be the late great Ricky Davis. Look at him inventing new ways to get a triple-double.

In the time it took to type this post, Josh Smith took 4 three pointers.

Would hardly call prime Kevin Martin a can

I would.

And I would call Maggette the Clips' 2nd option in '04 considering Richardson only played 65 games and Maggette was putting up over 8 fts/gm. In any case, prime Maggette wasn't a can either.

Derp. That means that his FGAs were actually inflated by playing the extra 8 games (lol) over QRich and becoming the 2nd option.

Inefficient chuckers known for being poor defenders. I would call them cans.

I think you've realized you made my point for me. Any expert would laugh at the notion that prime Kevin Martin was a can. He was one of the best pure scorers in the game. And no one ever questioned Maggette's talent. He could've been one the game's elite 2/3s if he had his head screwed on straight.

Martin would score 20 a night and let his man score 30. That sounds like a can to me.

Even if that were true, it's still elite offensive production from Martin which is what we were talking about in regards to Isiah Thomas.

Lol at prime Kevin Martin being a can

edit: even old Kevin Martin could still score

Fantasy stats =/= winning games

Most pros know this

Well shit then let's just throw the stat sheets out the window when evaluating talent on paper

Gortat will be making $12+ mil from the Wiz at age 35 lol

After seeing how much Gortat got i'm scared to see how much Lowry going to get. Before the start of free agency I was thinking he was getting 4Y/48M now i'm thinking his agent will somehow get a fifth year in the 13-15 million range.

No you keep them in context and consideration of all available data; quantitative and qualitative. Do you even science?

Then you've thought wrong. Too many what ifs.

Players who played on teams that were complete shit, chucked the ball, were defensive liabilities (like Thomas), and put up 20 PPG.

Neither made an All-Star team, neither made an All-NBA team, neither ended up being a Batman, a Robin, or even a reliable Alfred type role player on a great team. No one will even remember their names when our generation passes on.

Only an amateur would consider them anything but cans. That is, unless this amateur now stretches the definition of the word can to suit his own personal needs.

There are 1st options like Shareef Abdur Rahim who put up impressive numbers who we still categorize as cans.

Well unless you want to dig up some game film for us, stats and subjective memories are pretty much gonna dominate the discussion.

I've always fund it odd that the NBA seems to be the sport with the most strict and complicated cap structure, yet it seems like they overpay lesser players more than other major sports.

Because there are always teams willing to eat bad contracts at the end of it.

So anyone who hasn't been an All-Star is a can. Got it, why can't NBA GMs figure this out? Why do they insist on filling their rosters with players who aren't All-Stars?

Isiah Thomas, for a PG, put up a pretty efficient 20+ ppg and 6+ apg last season. And it was within the flow of the Kings' "offense", I know because I paid attention to him since he was on The 2013 World Champion Razor Faust. He would pick his spots letting Cousins and Gay try to establish themselves and then only start amping up the FGAs when it was time to attempt bringing the team back from a double digit deficit.
