I'm calling it right now: either Korea or Japan will reach the quarters.

They've both been very impressive the last couple of years.

I haven't seen Japan's squad yet but they have good players, if they somehow make it past the group stage, i'd give them a good chance at beating Italy, Uruguay or England.

I'm suprised Jogi didn't take Lasogga. Potentially perfect striker for Germany imo.

Lasogga is good but the players selected are better.

i know u guys are talking about soccer, but from a sociological point of view people here in Brasil are not happy at all with the World Cup.

People who live in communities, the "favelas" (google it) are being tragically moved away from their homes by the FUCKING ARMY something i would call gentrification, but im not sure if the term aplies.

Many protest are being done, people realized this World Cup will only benefit Fifa and big majors building contrctor owned by milionaries.

Not only that but the goverment invested a lot of public money to build stadiums wich probably will never be used again for reasonable purposes and the protesters claim the money should be invested in health public services, education and infrastructure like decent public transportation.

In fact, things are going pretty bad.

We had big protests in june 2013 and we still have them happening once in a while and government are trying to aprove a law wich makes protest ILEGAL.

I wonder what the world cup is doing to our democracy.

People could get 20 to 30 years in prision by protesting according to new anti-terrorism laws made up just for this event.

The army and police are KILLING inocents everyday in this situation and many workers building stadiums have DIED due to poor security standards.

]people are not happy.

Anarchists and black blocs are promising to prostest hardly agains the world cup and so all left wing activists. All we know is were fucked by this shit.

Any person who is not happy by receiving circus and bread here in Brasil are totally aware we should not realize this event.

The message from us brazilians for people from other country is to not come to Brazil and sabotage the world cup.

Pretty sad reading. I heard about the stadium worker deaths but didn't realize there were bigger issues surrounding it

Suppose it'll be a similar story with Qatar and all dat slave labour getting glossed over. FIFA got no shame

Germany's team is too strong. Need a good underdog story to get the feels going. Uruguay isn't favored but are good enough to win it all

Actually the same happened a year ago in the Confederations cup.

Vocal minority right here. Don't pretend you are the voice for everyone and don't pretend like social and work conditions are the result of the WC AT ALL. It's just a convenient platform for you to use to protest existing shitty conditions.

Stop being disingenuous, Brazil had massive social issues before the world cup and will continue to have the same problems after the world cup. Don't act like construction workers are being treated shitty all of a sudden; work conditions were shit to begin with. And lol @ pretending the majority of public money was ever being used for social welfare in Brazil

Those conditions existed, but is well known that countrys can lose tons of money (I think all thje countrys that have organized the Olympic games and the WC ended up losing money), especially ones that have to build or remodel all their stadiums, its just innecesary debt that could have gone elsewhere.

But it too late now, if people actually boycotted the WC and Brazil didnt even recovered a percentaje of the money they invested via tourism the situation will we worse.

I still dont know how Brazil ended with the WC and Olympic games back to back? yeah they had a big economy boost but were far from being economic powerhouse, it just feels like the story of guys that win some money and blow it up in coke, partys and women.

Agree, Japan and USA for example were great World cups.

One of the things I have heard Europe has over other places is how easy is to travel from one by place to another (bus, car, train, etc) in mostly safe enviroments wich for tourist fans following a team (or teams) from stadium to stadium is like heaven.

In the USA you will need to travel by flight and Japan was a WC hosted by 2 countrys separated by sea.

From what I have heard from the press even they are having a nightmare in Brazil to cover all the games since traveling is done by booking flights and logistics to keep all the WC citys connected is not that great especially the path of how teams are moving from one city to the next.

WC is way more profitable than the olympics. The whole "money could be best spent elsewhere" is laughably naive. As if corrupt politicians wouldn't find some other way to waste money.

Brazil's social welfare system has been a joke for decades and their politicians notoriously corrupt yet we're supposed to believe all of a sudden the politicians were going to be fiscally responsible if it weren't for that darned world cup? Be real.

In fact, there might be a contender for the Milla crown. If he gets the call-up from Colombia and plays a match, Faryd Mondragon will become the oldest player in the history of the World Cup.

Wow! Talking about a blast from the past.

How long he's been around? USA '94, France '98?

Cole left out by Woy. You dont leave your best man marking full back out for a rookie. Just ask Holland about going to a tournie with a rookie left back (Jetro Willems) and see how it goes.
