Glad Fat Frank is going, him and Gerrard can offer a lot of experience. We need to blend youth and experience with our starting 11.

Surprised Andy Carroll ain't going though. I always feel like he can be a good impact player from the bench! if we desperately need a goal, he can cause havoc in opposing penalty areas and has had a decent season for West Ham.

call me a hater, but the england squad looks so vanilla, esp. at gk and defense.

might be buh-bye after the group stage

Can't wait to see how Woy will fuck this one up.

Also add Ruddy, Flanagan, Stones, Carrick, Cleverley, Carroll and Defoe as standby players, in case of injuries before the start of the World Cup.

On paper it's the worst England lineup in a while, they'll spin it as building for the future though.

Jones and Smalling should be nowhere near the squad. That being said, I'd go for:

Hart

Baines
Cahill
Jagielka
Johnson

Gerrard
Henderson

Lallana
Barkley/Wilshere
Ox

Sturridge

Those conditions existed, but is well known that countrys can lose tons of money (I think all thje countrys that have organized the Olympic games and the WC ended up losing money), especially ones that have to build or remodel all their stadiums, its just innecesary debt that could have gone elsewhere.

Both London and Beijing Olympics made a profit, and the Germany WC in 2006 made a profit. Wouldn't be surprised if Japan/Korea 2002 and France 1998 did as well.

Only recent WC to make a loss was South Africa which was always gonna happen, and the Athens Olympics probably didn't do too well either.

If done right, these things can make a profit as well as being a big boost to a country's image worldwide. It's weeks of advertising to the whole planet across the big networks.

Surely this is a better England squad than what was sent to South Africa.

Arshavin has been dropped from the Russia squad too :(

Would've liked to have seen him

Dont see how he could do that. England will beat Costa Rica and most likely lose to Italy and Uruguay. If they somehow manage to get past group stage, they already done well. Might get a draw against Italy and then go to last 16 with better goal difference.

Jones and Smalling should be nowhere near the squad.

Who should be there instead of Jones/Smalling then? Please don't say Stones.

And yeah this squad is better than in South Africa. RB is a horrific disaster of a position though. He might just stick Jones there for defensive purposes.

Reckon we will see Lamps and Stevie in the same lineup at least once? lolz.

And Japan announced their final squad for the World Cup. Damn, that Group C is gonna be the shizniz.

Meanwhile, both Ecuador (24-man) and Russia (30-man) have announced their provisional squads. Expect more announcements in the next hours.

Name to remember for Ecuador: Jefferson Montero.

Dude's pretty good for his club, but EXCELLENT for Ecuador. At times, he's downright unstoppable. Got chosen as a starter for the South American Qualifiers team of the tournament by several newspapers. When you consider the talent at his position (winger/offensive mid), it's pretty admirable.

Holy crap, in what world has Jack Wilshere's form this season earned him a berth in your starting 11 ahead of Rooney, Sterling, Lampard and possibly Barkley?!

He's lucky to be in the squad, let alone the first team.

I like Jones in midfield man marking roles. I reckon a combination of Jones and Henderson would be useful in spoiling roles against fiddly playmakers
