12-6 Elbow from the bottom..

9-3 elbows you stupid American.

Quiet you guff speaking work slacker.
But he's right. 12-to-6 are only "ceiling to floor" as in straight up towards the ceiling and down towards the floor. Anything else is fair game.

is conor dhalsim from street fighter now, what kind of rubber limbs do you need to do

elbows whilst lying on your back

All elbow strikes thrown into a downward trajectory are illegal.

McGregor was throwing those with downward trajectory.

There is a reason you don't see those elbows in any other fight than tonight. They're illegal.

The fact that McGregor stopped throwing them after Herb realized should tell you.

Stop trying to defend something that isn't worth defending.

There was a debate years ago on this exact same issue after the Anderson Silva-Travis Lutter fight.

Big John actually posted to clarify that 12-6 elbows are elbows raised up and lowered point down towards the ground; it is not relative to the body.

But the unified rules still leave the rule ambiguous and this should be corrected. It is also a silly rule but that is another issue entirely.

Look at the clock face. Conor was clearly throwing them from 9 to 3. The clock face does not rotate if you are on your back. No matter what your orientation is 12 to 6 is ALWAYS ceiling to floor...

This, now end the thread.

I will say it again, 12-6 is when it follows the vector of gravity, from outer space to the earth's core.

Fighters are always throwing those elbows from the bottom. Don't really see what Mendes' complaint was.

He never got hit to the back of the head, just the top which is perfectly legal.

I never said he did actually get hit in the back of the head. but he grabbed the back of his head when was he complaining. He actually got hit in once in the crown area which is what he was complaining about. Even if he was on top, those wouldn't have been 12-6. Conors arm was actually angled a little away from his body when he was delivering those bows.

This is the only time I've seen Conor go from 6 to midnight

To the top of the head IS illegal (the 'mohawk' area). That may be why a lot of people ITT are confused, because people do get warned for that sometimes. That is probably what Chad was complaining about. Obviously 12-6 from the bottom is impossible though.

I remember Rogan saying something like, "It's the exact same motion," referring to 6-12 vs 3-9.

I'd have to agree with Rogan's implications. The only difference would be the fighters weight

The difference is the ground is at 6. Tie a watermelon to a string and it's pretty hard to bust it open because the watermelon bounces around. Put it on the ground and hit it at an angle and it's the same thing. Hit it directly from 12-6 when it's on the ground, throw in some racist jokes and you've got yourself a successful comedy routine you can work in small clubs across the south and midwest.

Now admittedly the rule isn't written only for a grounded opponent but that is the primary basis for the rule.

He was complaining about the "mohawk rule"
12 to 6 = elbow coming from the roof to the floor.

Here ya go

The name of the 12-6 elbow is based on the concept of a clock on the wall with the bringing of an elbow from straight up (12 o'clock) to straight down (6 o'clock).

12-6 elbow strikes are illegal under the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts, defined as "striking downwards using the point of the elbow".[1] Such bans were justified as being for medical and safety reasons, due to the possibility of serious injuries to opponents that could result from their use.

You can still, from the bottom, **** your elbow on a straight plane and slam it straight down (12-6).

And for all the idiots saying Conor was on his back, the elbow itself is still above the head, no matter the position.

Why? Do you also not like punches, kicks, knees etc......?

This is mixed martial arts, not a tickling contest. Or is it just because Conor used them?

No back when war machine fought on tuf vs some other guy from that season, the guy spammed those elbows from the bottom, even saw cuts to the top of the head that looked like it should be an illegal spot to get hit...

Id rather see knees anywhere, the 1 hand on the ground is dumb, soccer kicks will never be accepted in the great USA...But pointy elbows that cut and rarely ko, but mostly end a fight prematurely.....

oh wait according to you if someone doesnt believe 1 strike is fair, then dont punch or kick? or knee as well, what are you, special??
