12-6 Elbow from the bottom..

Wait... I know you Americans change the date numbers around for whatever reason but are your clocks backward as well!? 12-6 from the bottom lol

That's why it's a stupid rule, the same technique thrown at a different angle is the same move but only one is banned.

Scrap the rule.

During Mendes vs McGregor, McGregor used several 12-6 elbows from his back. Mendes complains repeatedly and Herb says it's legit.

Are 12-6 elbows only illegal when landed from inside someone's guard?

It's not 12 to 6 if they're on their back. Use your brain. When have you ever seen a clock with the 12 over on one side, and the 6 on the other? Never.

The 12 is at the top, the 6 is at the bottom. If fighter A is one their back and making the same motion that would be considered 12 to 6 if upright, then that motion is now 3 to 9, or 9 to 3, due to the position of their body in relation to the imagined clock sitting upright in the background.

The clock doesn't rotate, it is always upright, facing you.

I'm baffled that people don't understand this concept. Have you looked at a clock ever?

12-6 elbows are straight up going down. What he was throwing would be something like 3-9, which is basically side to side. Remember 12-6 are illegal, because of block breaking, so I don't see how people would break blocks in a lying position. What I think Chad was complaining about was getting hit on top of the head which if I'm correct is actually legal.

Striking to the spine or the back of the head

there is no such thing as a 12-6 elbow from the bottom

it's a 6-12 elbow (do you know how a fucking clock works, ts?), which of course the rules say nothing about being illegal

please tell me this post isnt real hahahahahaha

It means as if a clock is on the wall not lay on the floor, for example if the elbow is travelling parallel to the floor it's not 12-6 in the illegal sense.

Look at the clock face. Conor was clearly throwing them from 9 to 3. The clock face does not rotate if you are on your back. No matter what your orientation is 12 to 6 is ALWAYS ceiling to floor...

9-3 would mean the elbows moved from left to right, they absolutely did not move in that direction.

The elbows were legal and they were, imo, the turning point of the fight. It demonstrated that Conor still had plenty of energy, and it showed that Chad was tired/tiring pretty badly in conor's guard. The fact that Chad complained I am sure energized Conor because he knew then that the elbows were hurting him.

It is real. It is also correct. "12" meaning top, and "6" meaning bottom. Therefore, 12-6 means top-to-bottom. Therefore, it is impossible for someone to perform 12-6 elbows from bottom-to-top. Hence, the elbows thrown from bottom-to-top are 6-12 elbows. See figure 1a for reference.

they looked a bit 11:48 pm to me...are they legit

Lots of people beating a dead horse in here lol. The correct answer has been stated about 15 different times now.

My better judgment says the clock should be painted on the fighter's chest to determine whether it's a 12-6 elbow.

Lol, this thread is gold

Legal elbows are legal.

12-6 elbows come straight down with gravity (and should be legal anyway. For fucks sake kicking your il opponent in the head is allowed)

Drop an apple on the floor. It goes straight down. That is gravity and that is the direction of elbow which is illegal.
