12-6 Elbow from the bottom..

people dumb.

people don't get gravity

people so silly, don't understand why headbutts aren't legal.

I've seen refs warn fighters on numerous occasions about using downward elbows when they have someone in their guard. I'm not saying it's a good rule, but you people yelling "it's 3-9!" need to watch more fights. 12-6 is obviously in relation to your body.

No, 12-6 is ceiling to floor. It's blows to the top/back of the head which people get warned for.

It isn't. It's literally the face of a clock.

The clock doesn't change, spin, turn 45 degree angles, or any such nonsense. It's just a clock face.

I'm surprised Mendes didn't know they were legal.

This is the real point... not a bunch of Sherdoggers acting as jailhouse lawyers, parsing everyone's words. If a pro like Mendes is questioning the strikes, there's even confusion at the top tier of fighters. Yet here on Sherdog we have smartasses that want to dismiss the fact that this rule has lingered in the gray area for years. FFS.. how many 12-6 threads have we seen over the years?

You're right, though the stuff I've read seems to make the ruling fairly vague, I must have been misremembering those warnings, it seems fairly hard to hit someone with a "downward" elbow on the ground that isn't the back or top of the head though.

They were legal. Mendes fans please stop crying. Conor is just a better fighter. I was rooting for Mendes too. However, you have to take your losses like a man.

I hope Mendes thinks twice the next time he is offered a fight on 2 weeks notice.

no its not you fucktard. It has always been ceiling to floor. it has never been in relation to your body. You are making shit up.

We need to see how many boards, then ice blocks, Conor can break from that position before we decide if the strikes are illegal/safe or not.

During Mendes vs McGregor, McGregor used several 12-6 elbows from his back. Mendes complains repeatedly and Herb says it's legit.

Are 12-6 elbows only illegal when landed from inside someone's guard?

if he's on his back a "12-6" elbow becomes a "9-3" elbow lol

hence its a legal shot

12-6 is only a one way thing.

TS and several others ITT are prime examples of the moniker 'Shertard'.

Legal elbows are legal.

12-6 elbows come straight down with gravity (and should be legal anyway. For fucks sake kicking your il opponent in the head is allowed)

Drop an apple on the floor. It goes straight down. That is gravity and that is the direction of elbow which is illegal.

True, however I remember a Kenny Florian fight with Joe lauzon I believe when he threw similar elbows on his back and the ref told him to stop. Does anyone remember this??

picture a clock. 12 (elbow is up) to 6 (elbow going downwards towards 6). its a self explanatory move.

What, you didn't hear? Everything Conor does is legal. From 12-6 elbows to kicking your opponent in the head when he goes to tap gloves to a 30+ lb weight advantage, everything is legal if you're Conor McDana.

Why are parents not teaching their fucking kids to read analog clocks? This is your fault, American parents. Teach your kids so they don't make public fools of themselves like this.

Mended was complaining about getting hit in the back of the head not 12-6 strikes.
