Wonderboy wants oblique kicks banned - blames them for MCL Tear

You can tap to leg locks before any damage is done. Oblique kicks do damage instantly.

Do not even pretend that they are the same

In a perfect world. But professional prize fighting is far messier than what you’re pretending. This isn’t jiu jitsu class. Heel hooks have shredded plenty of knees in mma.

yes but you still miss the point.... when you throw a headkick the intention isnt to cause brain damage, but when throwing an oblique kick the intention is to injure the opponent

indirect consequences are not the same as direct consequences
Huh? When you throw a headkick, your intention is to knock them out. You do know a knock out results in brain damage, right?

There is no such thing as a perfect defence, period. Also, Waterson spammed the shit out of that kick and threw more of them at Rose in 2 rounds than Jones does in most 5 round fights, and Whittaker also spammed the shit out of them against Romero. Rose and Yoel dealt with it just fine because they had a good stance and used footwork to either move out of range or take weight off the leg so that it doesn't get extended. There are many proven ways to defend the kick, fighters need to quit crying and start learning.
You're picking three examples out of dozen that try and fail to defend oblique kicks.

Robert was severly fucked up by them and he clearly understands the mechanics of them. One is all it takes and that is the problem.

Yoel still got badly hurt by them and it effected his performance. Many many many more fighters have had to get surgery because of them.

You're delusional if you cannot see why this kick is so controversial. No other strike lands people in the hospital more than this one.

Huh? The intention is to literally injure the brain to the point that it shuts off. You think CroCop was just trying to score points? lol

will they need surgery and be out for a year or two after that though?

a knockout is pain free and requires zero rehab or surgery

The groin is a very sensitive area and very easy to cause damage to. Fights would end much faster and anti-climatically if groin strikes were allowed. I actually don't have a problem with headbutts. Unbanning them would actually spice things up.
Pushkicks to the knee make it very easy to do longterm damage to the knee with just one kick - without winning the fight for the other guy, and causing long layoffs and potential career dropoffs - which takes away from the sport for a technique that really should be limited to self-defense situations in the streets.
MMA isn't better from the proliferation of this attack.
It's just an asshole move that can ruin careers and damage health. The rules are pretty much designed to avoid longterm damage happening from one move, since this is supposedly a sport.

once the brain shuts off are you capable of feeling pain? how many people who were ko'd by Cro Cop required surgery afterwards and months of rehab?

I don’t know. Sure. Ever seen what a broken orbital looks like? Maybe it will be so bad it retires them. That’s happened too. And that only become more common with all we’re leadning about brain damage.

Josh Emmett had his face fractured and needed surgery. Cyborg had his skull caved in. Robbie Lawler has said he's suffered from vertigo and stopped sparring because of it. Cat Zingano has said she hasn't been the same since the Nunes fight.

Would be funny if the fighters just throw the same kick for 5 rounds, because it's so effective.
Careers get shorter and fights get less exciting.

lmfao would be hilarious indeed. Guys with tree trunks for legs are probably the only ones that could possibly survive the impact of those kicks.

This thread is a perfect example of how ignorant most MMA fans are to the dangers of head trauma.

There's so many people on this thread who vastly underestimate the damage a knockout can deal to you.

The problem if that brain damage is invisible and takes a while to hit. It's not as immediate as a busted knee, so it's easier to ignore.

I remember Jones saying the same thing when asked about oblique kicks. "They're trying to give me brain damage, so I'll try give em a limp."

Fair trade, IMO.

ask any fighter what they rather have ,an oblique kick to the knee or being knocked out ? At least they can fighter another 3 months, the knee will never be the same , surgery is a bitch

Tell that to Palhares' victims.
You mean the blatant cheat who held onto locks after his opponents tapped?

Because that's illegal and absolutely not comparable AT ALL. When people follow the rules, legs locks almost never do damage to fighters that tap.

because anything Jones say is so modest and righteous

So why practice defense at all if there are no guarantees it will work?

Nearly any strike in the book can land a fighter in the hospital if they land right.

Wonderboy seems mad that he’s not good at defending them. Just like Rampage.
Any strike can but they almost never do.

You know what almost always does? Oblique kicks.

It is not even comparable.

Cat Zingano had multiple knee surgeries which required lots of rehab time.... ask her what was more of a burden to her career? But again, those are unintended consequences of fighting, there are no unintended consequences from an oblique kick..... its goal is to blow out the knee

Yeah. Youre a pussy if you want this banned.

This is a blood sport. Do not pretend otherwise.

You can legally gary goodridge someone from the crucifix.

In MMA you can legally slap a twister on someone fast enough that if they do not tap in time they could be paralyzed.
