Wonderboy wants oblique kicks banned - blames them for MCL Tear

Let's not forget to take into account how insanely lazy Rampage is and was before that fight.
Rampage has always sucked at blocking any sort of leg kick.
But many knew what Rampage was, he had no passion for fighting, he just enjoyed the money/lifestyle.

If you think this is a dumb argument... You, my friend, have 100% for sure NEVER been caught in a heel hook, nor have you attempted one on someone else. It places an incredible amount of pressure on the knee (and it's components) with fairly minimal effort.

Please go get placed in a heel hook, tap, and once you realize you're already injured by the time you've tapped then you can come back and talk to me.

Yet there hasnt been any careers ended by this kick and its been thrown 10000 times.
Has any fighter died, had to retire from a low blow? Or had to retire after Jon-Jones style eye guard (which is different from a direct eye gouge)?

What about shortened/derailed careers?

Meh.

If wonderboy pressed the action a bit more he wouldnt have been a target for those

Wonderboy runs so much you have to target his knee and legs to make him a stationary target. He wouldnt have had his knees kicked out if he engaged and didnt sit in range like he does.

Sorta just seems butthurt here

It should be classified as a stomp, and banned. Or allow all stomps, just pick one.

Especially considering their careers can be short, they don't compete more than 3 or 4 times per year when healthy, they don't make huge mainstream paydays like NFL, MLB, NBA, etc. I remember Rampage saying years after his Jon Jones match that his knee was still messed up.
For fighters it's definitely a higher risk and a lower reward. Especially if opponents can legally try to destroy your knees. So limiting the possibilities here seems reasoable.

ask Rampage

This. Seriously. It only works against fighters who use a side-on stance and/or don't know how to defend them.
When women know how to deal with these kicks and you don't, you are doing it wrong.

Waterson spammed the kick against Rose and did no damage

Holm tried it several times against Valentina and got countered on each attempt

Have to agree.

Those kicks do have potential for nasty injuries, but really all the nastiest injuries in MMA had happened due to completely 'uncontroversional' techniques.

If you ban those kicks, people will start throwing some other ones with potential for hyperextension or dislocation, likely.

Will they have to keep on banning techniques?

I really don't think MMA would miss them if they're gone. It's a dirty move.

If you like dirty moves and wanna bring up that weak, tired "why don't we ban punches, too?"
Why don't we unban groin strikes and headbutts? Those are strikes.

That is perhaps one argument in favour of banning, it doesn't feel like a move that fundamentally alters the way the sport functions.

Something like knees on the ground that many want to see brought back would arguably be much more important, there are situations where no other technique would be effective and they are(i.e. someone turtling).

Stamps and 12-6 elbows would shut down turtle.

Agreed.

Only idiots and couch jockeys say they're fine.

Not comparable. You can't hit the groin, or headbutt in ANY regard. You can kick the leg in a multitude of ways. But just not this one way? Like I get it, they're damaging and some people don't like them. But this argument dosen't cover the gap as to why they plausibly should be.

Elbows or strikes to the back of the head - elbows and strikes to the head are allowed in a multitide of ways, why just those? Because that constitues a very high and unnecessary risk of lasting injury.

Also, regarding your groin strike reasoning, we allow kicks everywhere, right up to the groin, but don’t allow the groin to be struck. We can allow the legs to be targeted and not the knee.

S/b allowed to throw the kick, but as soon as it contacts the knee instead of shin or quad - warning, then point, then DQ, IMO.

Not sure those two would stop turtling as they come from above and would be aiming for the back of the head, soccer kicks obviously would but then again all those techniques along with knees on the ground are currently illegal.

They're similar to foot stomps. An unskilled, cheap, gimmicky move that provides a high chance of injury while offering very little in entertainment value.

If a move like this is legal, might as well add hair pulling, eye pokes, groin strikes, head butting, oil checks and dick grabbing. Same basic principles.

People seem to forget that this is SPORT FIGHTING. Not Vale Tudo, not UFC 1, not convict fights...rules are meant to enhance entertainment value while keeping the product (fighters) healthy. Nothing about oblique kicks does either of those and we'll see them banned when a cash cow like McGregor gets his knee shredded.

Amen

Probably a bit more explosive with a bit better cardio but not much different.
