Why does nobody talk about Robert Whittaker?

because everyone in here seems to have kabobs or colins cock in their mouth

I can't think of one Whittaker highlight or press moment that stands out
I don't care about press moments or stupid shit like that.

But as for fight moments, I can't think of one moment that stands out either.

He's fought once in 16 months and arguably lost that fight

He has personality.

He doesn’t have personality that sells (unfortunately)

/thread
EXACTLY. whenever a champion's a nice humble guy who doesn't try to selll himself or belittle others, they say he has no personality. (whitaker, demetrius johnson come to mind) sage northcutt, meisha tate also come to mind.

theres a reason Demetrius, sage, meisha tate are leaving for ONE.

We Americans like our champions to start shit, get into trouble and sell tickets. It's why Jon Jones, Brock Lesnar, Conor Mcgregor, Chael Sonnen are some of the highest selling fighters.

The same reason people who know Whitaker love him is the same reason why UFC fans don't tune it to watch him.

The same reason people who know McGregor hate him is the same reason why UFC fans tune in to watch him.

Shit's weird like that.

If he's not gonna trash talk, or develop a highlight real friendly style he should at least post a video of himself jo'in on Pornhub. Apparently the mma community loves that stuff.

Whittaker is not much of a talker, and he admitted that he's basically been telling the UFC that he's not going to do media if it interferes with his training schedule, but there's nothing boring about his fighting style. All of his MW fights have been awesome.

I'm being serious. It's like everybody forgets he exists. Is he that forgettable or is everyone just sleeping on him?
He’s like Candy man if I start saying his name he’ll appear in the mirror and i’ll catch dem hands. Bobby Knuckles hands are rated E for everyone

He's not an over-dramatic queen like a lot of fighters that get a lot of attention, so he's not talked about here as much. I like him a lot.

Yeah really underrated fighter. He has killed it at middleweight since moving up from welterweight. Really fun to watch.

I think a lot of people felt Romero won the second fight and that’s put a bit of a damper on his buzz.
Romero was overweight anyways so doesn’t really matter he wouldn’t have got the belt anyways. I scored that fight a draw it was really close just like the first fight.

I do wish Whittaker would get more love and acceptance in the mainstream media in Australia, though. Again, it's probably because there's no scandal or dirt about him, that people don't see a story or angle to promote, but he's the perfect role model for the sport in an up-and-coming market. A young, controversy-free family man, who is a world champion in an international sport that isn't exactly "native" to Australia (eg. cricket, tennis, swimming, etc.).

I know he has done some mainstream press, and we're a bit behind the times here in terms of perception of MMA as a sport (there's still a fair segment who have that John McCain "It's barbaric!" attitude, while being totally accepting of boxing whenever someone like Jeff Horn wins a fight or Danny Green wants to come back).

We're pretty quick to latch on and promote any Aussie that has success overseas (and claim New Zealand-born Aussies, which Whittaker is too, as our own), especially in the sporting arena, but it seems like Whittaker hasn't quite been given the fanfare he could and should be IMO.

yeah he's super underrated on here, i love the guy and he's an absolute beast.

honestly i don't think anyone is gonna beat him at MW atm, hopefully he starts getting some respect when/if he gets a couple more defenses.

I can't think of one Whittaker highlight or press moment that stands out
sleeping tavares, beating the shit out of brunson, taking out jacare with ease (love how he finds that ducking headkick against like everyone), beating romero twice while injured both times.

Its because he's not a serial criminal/cheater like Juice Jones and isn't making headlines constantly because he's actually training and winning fights.

Romero was overweight anyways so doesn’t really matter he wouldn’t have got the belt anyways. I scored that fight a draw it was really close just like the first fight.
yeha true with fatty not making weight. it was just an exhibition bout.

i felt the first fight was much closer due to this one having so much more action.
