Oh my, I had completely forgot about Star Blazers. It was the first anime I probably ever watched in my life. We're talking 1980's. It used to come on once a week. Thanks for reminding me of this.

the 1997 series starts off slow, but is super deep & fucked up.
the 3 movies are basically the 1997 series in movie format but more recent & funded by Warner Brothers
the 2016 series is basically season 2
& the 2017 series is season 3

&hell yeah it has gore. I refer to Berserk as the "Japanese Game of Thrones".

Awesome, i never knew there was a new berserk series out, i've seen the 97 series and the 3 movies and they both end at the same point in the story it was infuriating lol. Didnt fancy reading the manga.

As far as series go, listen to those saying Cowboy Bebop. It transcends anime. The backdrop is a sci-fi future, but any given episode could be drama, comedy, horror, sci-fi, "western", martial arts... It is pretty brilliant. There's a full length film as well, it takes place between two episodes (later on in the series, like between episodes 21-22 I think). The series itself is relatively short (26 episodes), and you'll understand why it's amazing just watching episode 1. I prefer anime films to series, but as far as series go, it's among the best, not just in the anime genre, but period.
