Universal/socialist healthcare is worse than what we have now

Here is the good news, regardless of which side you're on.

This is the free markets last chance for healthcare. If they can't make it work over the next decade, we're going to have nationalized healthcare.

End of story.

What's the issue? Looking to the charity of neighbors is well founded in conservative economic ideals.

What if I told you that the "free market" never had a real shot at tackling healthcare issues?

Great
Fast
Cheap

Pick two out of the three, because your national healthcare system can't have all 3
Right now I would be happy with just one.
It is not cheap, not fast and for as much as I pay, not great.

It's rather obvious that it's always required the participation of government. I didn't think that needed to be spelled out for people...

Murka doesnt have any of those, just having one would be an improvement.

This is not to say our current healthcare situation is ide, but I'd rather pay a decent copay and have access to care whenever the fuсk I want, than to wait 6 months for an x ray and pay an assload of taxes to take care of all the sick people in the country. The overwhelming majority of people have healthcare through their job and Medicare is pretty good for the old folks. Show me examples of people being denied access to healthcare and we'll fight that injustice together.

But you don't have care whenever you want. If you need to see a specialist, or have an elective surgery, it will take 1-3 months.

This is one of many canards against single payer. It takes 3 months to get a knee surgery in Canada?

Well guess what, unless their is a clear and present danger from not having immediate surgery, it takes 1-3 months here as well.

Read it again, slowly this time...

Health care would only be cheaper for the poor since they hardly pay taxes. The rest of us would have to pay far more for it through taxes than we are paying for insurance now. I think I'll stick with my insurance, thanks.

The US can't even run the VA right, Obamacare is in the shitter but socialists/communists supporters think we can run healthcare for 320+ million just fine with the power of government and unicorns.

Wrong. The US already spends more on health care per capita than any other nation. Canadians on average spend about $3,961 per person on health care compared to $9,237 for the US.

Is that not for Medicare? If we do Single Payer, we'll be paying more on top of that.

If it requires the participation of the government, it's not the "free market" now, is it?

We pay much less per capita in Canada ( almost half ) and can get care whenever needed . The only real waits are for things like hip replacements and other non emergency procedures .

I have elderly parents with health issues who are getting phenomenal care , lots of new babies in the family as well , great care all around.

If I want to see a doctor tomorrow morning I can go to one of dozens of walk in clinics within a 10 minute drive.

With the added benefit that no one goes bankrupt due to their medical bills

Yes in my experience

Yes in my experience ( waits are mainly for non emergency procedures )

And yes in my experience

Yay for the Canadian health care

To be fair under the Canadian system it could take a bit longer than that or be quicker depending on the circumstances , my 73 year old uncle just waited 9 months for hip replacemt which he was fine with btw
